Need detailed insructions on how to download rings

I have never downloaded rings onto a phone before. I love my w385 but the number of available rings is very limited, and the ones available are not loud enough (except for the "classic" and "provincial"). So, I need to find and get some new rings. I don't really want to use the "Get It Now" service -- I have never used it before, but it seems that Verizon charges a lot for it -- I may be wrong though.

I have ready somewhere that a ring can be emailed as a picture attachment and then saved as a ring. Could someone provide detailed instructions? Is there a site with free rings that one could recommend? Does a ring need to be first converted to a specific format? If so, which utility should I use? In short, I need detailed instructions.

here ya go

1. Go to www.cnet.com and download a program called mp3 cutter. You get a trial version that allows you to cut clips at 30seconds(perfect size20-30sec) YOu can also find many other programs out there that do the same thing.
2. cut a mp3 to under 30 seconds and 350kbs to be safe from it failing
3. Go to funformobile.com(once again other options like sending them straight to your phone your ####@vzwpix.com)
4.on the left side there is an option to upload ringtone.
5.select this and choose your carrier, phone, enter your number, selct the file you cut, hit send.
6.they will format and send it to your phone
7.open up picuture message you receive, hit options and save sound as ringtone

some other options
1.www.myxertones....

yeshright,

Thank you for the detailed instrcution. I followed it till step 5. After I hit the Upload button, I got this message,

A MMS message has been sent to your phone: (my phone number)
Open the message and play your ringtone. Enjoy!

But I never received the picture message. I tried with file size 313kb, 282kb, 251kb, still no messages coming in. Do you know what the problem was?

Thank you.

I had the same problem the first several times that I tried this as well. I finally just made a clip using the mp3 cutter about 18 secs in length and tried again and it worked....it does take a couple minutes for your phone to receive the message...I almost thought that it did not work again.

Thank you.

This afternoon I cut the mp3 music to 11 sec (173kb). I uploaded 11 music (all 173kb) and only 5 of them came to my phone. All other 6 didn't get through.

I have the absolute BEST loud ringer (tasteful) and is a copper bell ringer. If you or anyone wants it, send me an e-mail through Phonescoop with your cell phone number and I will send it from my phone to yours.
Cost: Free if you have a text/pix plan or Verizon will charge you 25 cents for a single incoming text message.

Thanks I got it! It took a bit of experimenting but I have it now as a ringtone.
I can verify you can save emailed ringtones and use them on this phone for USCC.
I had to save the attachment then apply as a ringtone. (not save as ringtone)

i tried using tone this to send ringtones to this phone. it will save the file in the sound folder, but it wont let you select it as a ringtone. it will only let you use the ones they provide for you, or they will make you download a sony ringtone app that you have to pay for the ringtones, does anyone know how to by pass this?

When I did this, I just went to gmail and created a new email with the recipient of XXX-XXX-XXXX@vzwpix.com and attached the sound clip. It arrived on my phone in a pix message and I just saved the file to the phone.

yup, sometimes though people run into formatting issues, funformobile seems to format it or something when you load it through there, plus i have sent the same one straight to my phone and one from the site and it seemd to sound much better. Just my experience though

Hi! I had this same problem and just figured it out. The ringtone that is sent to your phone needs to be an mp3 file. I sent a ringtone from FunForMobile.com and it had the same problem that you had. Then I sent one from phonezoo.com and it worked! The only difference was that the ringtone from phonezoo.com was an mp3 file and the one from FunForMobile was not. Then I fixed the funformobile.com ringtone by downloading it to my computer and then re-saving it as an mp3 file (I just typed in .mp3 at the end) and then sending it back to my phone with the FREE UPLOAD link on the funformobile.com website.
Once the message is sent to your phone, open it and then push the "options" button while the tone is playing. Then go down to "SAVE SOUN...

I just got two new W385's. I have tried following everything posted. I can send the tone to the phone, and it even plays. When asked to save as ringtone it flashes something about "non alphanumeric characters being used" and won't save the tone. Is this something that Verizon has done to prevent loading ringtones, or is there a work around.

What name are you saving it as? Apparently it can only be letters or numbers. no - + = / or whatever. Perhaps a .mp3 extension in the name could be a problem.
