Help - 8525 or Blackjack ?

😕 😕
I've spent the last few days researching the Cingular 8525 and had finally decided to get it, despite the painful price tag. Then I log on today and see the Blackjack and I'm back to mass indecisiveness again.
The major differences (besides $200) that I see are:
8525 has Wi-Fi
Blackjack is thinner and lighter
8525 has bigger screen
8525 has better camera

Unfortunately the local Cingular stores do not have the 8525 in yet so I can't go in and look in person and handle them. Does anyone have any experience with comparing them.
I know, I'm obsessing, and it's killing my work productivity today.
😕 😕 😕

I had the exact same concerns Eric. I was all set to order the 8525 until I saw the BlackJack. I am limited to Windows Mobile 5.0 devices only because I work for a bank and they're only comfortable with the security features of Windows Mobile 5.0. I loved the features of the 8525 but I was dreading the bulk. The BlackJack is not as powerful as the 8525 but it's darn close and at half the price. Small tradeoffs for a pretty significant savings in my book. Here are some links which offer some good information. Hope it helps. I ordered the BlackJack this morning.

The 8525 is a great unit. Overall is probably better than the BlackJack. But personal preferences comes to mind when comparing this two. I currently have an 8125 and loved it. The only negative thing about it is the lack of a keypad to dial phone numbers. This applies to 8525 where you have to dial from the screen which is a pain, or use the slide out keyboard to dial, which was not pleasant also. The Blackjack will allow you to dial from the keyboard. I'm not a big fan of voice tag dialing so I won't even talk about that. A lot of people wants WiFi just to have it but does not really use it. With 3G speed on this phone and you will eventually get a data plan anyway, the WiFi does not really apply to the comparison. It all comes down to ...

I think I agree with you, I have an 8125 and like it, it's not perfect, then again nothing really is. My bitch isn't so much with the touch screen dial, but having to hit the small little button on the screen to get back to the keybad after you go to the speaker function. I call my wife at work at have to goto an extension for her. A real pain in the ass. But nothing that would prevent me from getting a pda/phone. Just one of the quirks.

I also think many of the treo's problems were with early release, many have been solved. And with a new release more will be. Palm has to do something to maintain itself.

well i was at the cingular store and i tried using both of these phones. the black jack earpeace volume was a little louder than the 8525 but the blackjack also sounded a little muffled when talking. also the person i was talking to said they could hear me clearer and louder on the 8525. the black jack has access to media.net and cingular video and the 8525 doesn't. another thing to think about is the fact that in 2007 if u need push to talk then then there will be a firmware upgrade to enable to 8525 to use push to talk. hope that helped a little bit.
