Promising solution for battery issue

Crunchy Frog

I discovered a great way to make the Blackjack battery last for days.
Here's the secret: go to the wireless manager and turn off the radio for the phone. Now my battery lasts days without a charge.
Sure you can't make or receive calls, browse the Internet or check email, but I think these are small sacrifices to make for such a cool phone.
Now I use it all day for solitaire and that nifty calculator.

Great solution! 😉

Actually there's a registry hack to switch of HSDPA radio and greately enhance battery life. This leaves the 2nd GSM radio on so you can make calls, use DATA via EDGE, etc. It's not that HSDPA radio is specially power hungry but the fact that having two radios on suck life out of teh battery.

From Cingular knowledge base https://www.cingular.com/support/deviceConfig .do?content=KB72585.html

SUBJECT:
Turning UMTS (3G) On / Off for the Samsung Blackjack

FIX:

1. Enter *#1546792*#.
2. Select Network & Call Settings.
3. Select Network Mode.
* Select GSM to turn 3G off
* Select UMTS to turn 3G on

NOTE:
The device will remain at EDGE speeds until UMTS is turned back on.

Also check Blackjack forums at howardforums.com or blackjacksmartzone.com. Look for thread with the name Tips & Tricks. They show how to create a shortcut so you can switch back and forth easier.

Short press on power button (left on top of the phone). It'll show the menu, select Wireless Manager screen, scroll to Phone and click OK button - you'll see status changing from "on" to "off".

Also, you can use a scroll wheel/button to highlight the screen area 2nd from the top where it says 'Cingular' with the time, press OK or select and it takes you directly to the wireless mgr.
