"hold" button?

i was playing around with this phone earlier today at my verizon store, and i noticed a side button on the phone that said "hold". what purpose does this button serve?

when the phone is closed, "hold" deactivates the music functions on the front of the phone so you don't accidentally start playing music while its in your pocket. just like hold on an ipod.
