On my old phone i could lock the contact list so u needed a passcode to get in to it is that possible on this phone?

Yes it can be done. Go to Menu -> Tools & Settings -> Call Settings -> Call Restrictions -> Contacts -> There you can select on and then you will have to put in security code to get to contacts.
