this method:

take a picture. email it to yourself from the phone. respond to the email with the mp3 attached. save the sound (options menu). the sound is now able to be used as a ringtone.

once the ringtone is saved, the new mp3 ringtone will show up in the ringtones menu with a yellow icon instead of the default green icon.

Mine shows up under sounds, but not ringtones. It also sounds like crap. Like I held the phone up to the radio and recorded the sound. Didn't sound like that in the original sound file. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. But my sounds comes out clear. Just can't get it into the ringtones. Hoping for a solution...

I gave up trying to use mp3's as ringtones. It was too much work to try and get a program to clip the song down so it was under 20 seconds and then to have to send it to myself etc. Plus it doesn't sound as good.
I did however find a lovely program so that I could put my music videos [wmv files] on my phone to watch. I'll be putting that information in the long review I'm currently putting together.

i tried the tmp method and it worked 4 me, thanks!

I have a US Cellular Version. I got a copy of motorola phone tools.(lime wire) and upgraded it from 3.11 to 4.3.0. now, i can open the tool, and dump mp3s directly to my phone. Also, the program has a feature to crop and edit songs to turn them into ringtones that drop into your sounds folder on the phone. If you have .wav sounds that you want as ringtones, you can convert them to mp3's using Music Match Jukebox. Its a free download.
...
i have MPT 3.11. It won't recognize my Krazr when i plug it in. Just keeps saying "Initializing" and Phone not connected. How do I upgrade to 4.3? Do you have to buy it?
Also, I put mp3 files on my SD card, but don't know how to access them on my phone. any advice?

Just to report this method worked great for me on my phone. Whoever "tmp" is or whoever came up with this is brilliant, thx tmp

Let me tell you.. i have successfully accomplished MP3 Ringtones according to what TMP stated ( thanks TMP )
i first sent a picture message with picture attached randomly to my email address with Yahoo..
from there i checked the message and hit reply proceeded to attach a mp3 clip of a song i like and sent it to my phone..
when i opened the message the music played in the right corner i hit Options and than " save sound " it went directly into my ringtones folder and had the ability to be set as a ringtone!
its just as easy as it was with the V3M.. and for the curious.. i have Verizon as my service provider. the K1M that i did this with is obviously the CDMA Verizon version.. hope this helps out?

so according to bigack, the process that tmp used works... i was wondering when you take a pic with your phone and email it to yourself, "yourself= your email like tmp@yhaoo.com..." and then attach a mp3 to this email from your computer and send it back to the phone?... or email the pic to your phone attach the mp3 from your phone and resend it back to your phone again?.. sorry I'm new to this and kinda lost. also how long can the mp3 be? 1-4 minutes or does it have to be a little clip of the song about 30 secs inorder for it to work...again thanks for everyones help..as you can see, i'm new to this. thanks

Both methods worked for me, and I had no file size restrictions- I've emailed ones from 75k to 750k. As a test I emailed one of mine to another Phonescoop guy and he said it worked on his, and that was from my work PC, so it's not a Mac/PC issue. But they do have to be mp3s, otherwise they will not be saved to the correct location and won't be available as ringtones.
your mileage may vary

So I'm trying to get this method to work for my girlfriend's KRZR. But how do you send a picture message to an email address? Do you just put an email address where you're supposed to put in a contact person/number? Or is there an actual option of 'send to email' like there was on my old Sanyo VM4500?
...
res put the e-mail address were the contacts go but make sure you are sending sound in a mp3 format.

I am having NO luck with this method. I can save the mp3, but it only goes into my sounds. Not ringtones.

i had problems when i first started but the tmp method works fine. some things to verify. make sure you have registered on vzwpix.com (GIN under "pix&flix" tab). you need to send a pic from your phone to your email account (i used yahoo). you must respond directly to the message sent from the phone with the mp3 attached. Make sure the mp3 is truly an mp3. simply changing the extension from a "mid" to "mp3" does NOT work once it gets on the phone. if its not in true mp3 format, the phone will only think its a sound file thus only give you the "save sound" option not "save ringtone". the usual size ringtone i use is 64kbps and about 250kb at 30secs in length. also remember to turn the volume up on the ringtones (see other post "cannot ...

You guys make it way to hard.. get a mini usb cable, hook it to your computer, go to limewire, load your songs, save to file, do a file transfer from cpu to phone, DADA all the music you want.. FOR FREE.. its simple..

Same thing happened to me and here's how I fixed it:
After you get your clip, you have to convert it to 64kpbs, then email it to your phone. I think the k1m only recognizes this bitrate as ringtones.
The way I converted it was open it up in itunes, go to preferences/advanced/importing. Choose import using mp3 encoder, and choose custom settings. Here I chose 64kbp, no vbr, auto, auto, joint, yes smart, yes filter. Right click the clip in the playlist and choose convert to mp3. Go back to the folder where u have the mp3 saved and you should see a smaller copy at 64kbps. Email this one and it should work, at least it did for me.
This also solved my other problem with low quality radio-like ringtones when I first tried to email it to ...
