Other than the form factor, why would anyone get this over a V3m?

To me this is just a repackaged V3m. They both have 1.3 megapixel cameras, microSD memory card slots, 176 x 220 pixel screens and music players. The only difference is the touch sensitive music controls on the outside of the phone. The Motorola V710 was released 2 years ago (August 2004) and it had a 1.3 megapixel camera. They could have at least included the 2 megapixel camera that's in the GSM version. If this one had the A2DP stereo Bluetooth profile, then maybe it would be worth considering. I'm curious to see how much of a premium Motorola/Verizon are going to charge for this phone over the V3m.

Why get any new phone, with your logic. It's a phone, hopefully it makes calls and it has the added bonus of looking pretty while doing it 🤤

I think you're missing my point. Many people get new phones because they want new features, not just because it looks prettier. A few years ago phones didn't have color screens, built in cameras, the ability to send/receive text messages, high speed data capabilities to watch streaming video, etc. I could go on and on with features that have been added to mobile phones over the last 4-5 years. If you're a fan of Motorolas (like I am), this phone doesn't give you a compelling reason to upgrade.

yes, i agree. ive had a v710 for the last 2 years, and im having trouble finding a NEW phone that can do what my current phone does. with the lack of newer and better hardware, plus the disabling of cool features, i might have to wait ANOTHER 2 YEARS to get a phone 😳

Actually, there are some upgrades that aren't obvious. A) The 1.3MP camera is actually much better than the one in the V710. Remember that the quality of the photos is not determined by the resolution alone.
B) the MP3 playback is supposed to be iPod quality. If you've ever listened to a song on the V710 you'd know what I mean.
C) the fact that you have music control Keys on the outside is a nice feature.

But all of the above is really just the icing on the cake because most people are going to go for the "coolness" of the formfactor.

Nevertheless, I agree that the stereo bluetooth and 2MP SHOULD have been included. Maybe next year...

Yeah... ditto. I have a V710, and no adequate replacements seem obvious.

Ever since the advent of the RAZR, it seems that cell phone manufacturers are focusing more on form than on features. I mean, it works: no one has yet considered the most important factor for this phone - the voice quality.

And even if there were a decent phone, you can be sure Verizon would lock it down so as to eliminate the useful features.

It is growing to be a sad industry.

Too late dude, It's already a sad industry.
Verizon no longer needs to lock it down, they will no longer use Motorola's UI, they designed their own UI with that very purpose...
