Bwahaha - the Star Trek?

Looks kinda neato, but the Star Trek? What an odd name.

[insert William Shatner endorsement joke here]

[insert phone somewhat resembling Leonard Nimoy here]

So I wonder if this will go to TM or Cingular? I guess no, but one never knows. . .

Got mine ...

... and I'm quite happy with it, at least until the next new phone catches my eye. 😁

I bought from smart-mobile-gadgets.com and was impressed: good price, personal contact.

The 8500 was buggy at first. A couple of the weird things may have been just me. For example, at first I couldn't get it to find a signal at all. Thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t= 960760

Then it wouldn't disconnect from VM (I assume because the other end didn't hang up). Thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t= 963002

Finally, I had the known issue of the phone falling into a deep sleep and missing calls. The "band aid" worked for me. Thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t= 962687

After the couple of days...

Missed calls

For any of you on this forum considering a purchase of this phone under the QTek 8500 brand, beware. It's got a MAJOR bug with missing calls and not dispalying a voice mail indicator. For details go here:

Cingular it is (will features be different)!

Boy Genius (through Engadget-Mobile) is reporting that Cingular is planning to release the Smartflip/8500/Star Trek in late August/September. I assume it will will be branded under the Cingular name (as is the Cingular 8125).

My question is, when released by Cingular, is there any chance the features may be slightly different (maybe 128MB instead of just 64MB, etc).

Cingular will have this phone

Cingular will launch this phone later on this year. This was on the planned rollout with no release or drop date as of yet.

Stereo BT on the nokia 6131?

at the bottom of the page it says

"Although Nokia considers it mid-range, the 6131 is fairly feature-packed, including quad-band GSM, EDGE, stereo Bluetooth, a megapixel camera, and a microSD card slot."

but that is the only place i see that says it has stereo bluetooth. can anyone confirm that it does?

How's the W950's keypad?

this seems like a really cool device, despite the lack of camera, i'm just wondering how the 'flush' feeling keypad felt. Especially the dedicated music keys (they looked cramped)

thanx in advance rich

Microsoft/Virgin/BT

I've been reading about this "partnership" between Microsoft, Virgin and BT to work together on a mobile TV effort called Movio.

Anyone have any thoughts on why MS and VM would attach themselves to a platform that plans to use DAB, rather than DVB-H? From what I've heard, DVB is much more likely to become the eventual standard... or, if not, then something other than DAB (FLO, TDtv, etc).

Is it just that they want to get to market first, screw the eventual problems?

Samsung i320 vs. Motorola Q Plastics/Build Quality

I noticed that in the i320 article, it was mentioned that the Q felt hollow and cheap. Does it feel hollow in the way of cheap plastics (like the E815), or just simply becasue it is light? How much better are the plastics/build quality on the Samsung?

Thank you! As you can see, I am very concerned about exterior build quality in my handsets. Motorola historically hasn't delivered that, for me.
