6700 keyboard an issue!

☚ī¸
Just received my new 6700, and on the whole it's a great little phone. The new window mobile 5 is tight and easy to use, the phone has a nice feel in the hand.
Three complaints though, both around the qwerty keyboard. First the slider seems weak and fragile. I don't have a lot of confidence in its longevity. It is always opening a little by itself, and has quite a bit of sidewards give. The main complaint is the keyboard back light. It is so weak and inconsistent it makes reading the keys harder not easier in daylight. It's so bad that unless I can find a way to disable the light the phone is going back. Does anyone know how to turn it off? The Tech support at Sprint have no idea.
Finally the phone loses two bars of reception when th...

PPC-6700 keyboard

I just noticed the keyboard does not match a typical PC layout. (rightside keys are dropped to the bottom row) Does anyone find this slows down their typing when switching between the 6700 and PC keyboard?

Is there an optional "grafitti box" for use when the slide is closed?

I'm typically a "touchy-feely" buyer and need to see a demo unit before buying anything so this "call to order" is driving me nuts.

Recalled ?? Sprint Store Said The PPC-6700 Has Been Recalled

I went to a Sprint store today and was told by the Assistant Manager that the HTC Apache PPC-6700 has been recalled. He said the store did not have them to sell, but they have been recalled so I could/should not get one at this time. He had no information as to why or when an updated unit would be available. He could not tell me what was wrong with the device that lead to the recall. He said there were bugs in it??? Does anyone know if this is true? He said he could sell me a Treo and I started to think this was just a sales deal trying to sell me something they had in stock. Comments?😲

Here is the scoop on purchasing this phone as a non-business user!

Hello everyone,

I just ordered this phone - I do not have a business account. Originally the customer service rep told me that I was going to have to wait a few weeks for the phone to be released to the public. I told him I also run a business and looked into the prospect of switching my account over to a business account, the only thing holding me back was the 25% discount I get on my sprint service because I work for Home Depot. He told me I could get a 5% service discount if I signed up 5 lines. Then he thought about it, and said because I am part of the Home Depot corporate account I am allowed to purchase the ppc-6700!!!

I asked him details, and he said anyone who is eligible for a group discount through their place of business or...

A BIG CHANGE --- PPC 6700 FOR SALE NOW TO CONSUMER ACCOUNTS

I have read over and over that the ppc-6700 is only for sale for business accounts. I have called sprint 15 times to verify this and it has always been true. However, I called today, on the consumer side and the lady told me that the business side would sell to me without having to setup a business account. They transfered me and in a matter of minutes, they sold me the phone, with no hassles. The phone will be here on Monday. So for those of you that want it and dont have a business account... good news... you do not have to wait until the end of october. There is also a 14 trial period... if you dont like it... send it back and still use your own phone.

Bluetooth Voice Command - Via Headset?

Does anyone know if you can operate MS Voice Command via a Bluetooth headset on this device or Windows Mobile 5.0 at all? Can you open and close programs? Can you dial by number or contact? Does it have full voice command capability? I would rather those that have the device and have used the program give me thier experiences.

How is it as a game player?

I hear the i730 won't work very well as a game player because its D-pad doesn't support simultaneous key presses, i.e., left + up = diagonal move. Does the PPC-6700 work any better?

NV Memory?

I have a Treo 650 and love the fact that the memory is non volatile.

WM5 is supposed to support this and I am wondering if this is implemented in the 6700.

FM Radio

What about an FM radio? Why couldn't they just stick an FM radio in there with all of these options??? 😁 I just saw that on the sony 600i and do listen to radio more than mp3s.

Slim case?

I am looking for a silicon case similar to the ones used for the ipods, so that my 6700 wont get scratched if it accidentally falls... I don't use the clip because is too bulky and I either hold the phone in my hand or in my back pocket. Did anyone find anything? What about the GPS for this phone?

Reception in Marin &/or Sonoma County...?

Does anyone who lives in Marin or Sonoma County, CA own this device? I'd like to know how the reception is - especially in Sonoma County. I'm very experienced with owning a device that has mediocre reception on Sprint's network, and would prefer not to invest in such a device again! Sonoma County tends to have several "black holes" that can only be avoided by owning a Sanyo or higher end LG (in my experience & 7 years as a Sprint Customer)!
Thanks! 😎
