Excellent Phone... Except no edge...

This is and excellent phone. For the price that it is offered at there isn't a phone out that has as many features. The only thing that would keep anyone from buying this phone is that it doesn't have EDGE. If you need an EDGE phone buy a Moto v557, if not do yourself a favor and buy this one. The reception, battery life, and menu styles are way better.

Answer on flip?

on the Z500a, you couldn't turn off the "answer when flipped open" feature. does this option appear on the Z520a?

Will become available this week

I have a friend that work's at Cingular's headquarters and is pretty high up in the organization (works in analysis and sales). He told me last night that the z520a should be available in stores either on 7 or 9 November.

Cingular Stores have it... unless they sold out like mine did!

So I went to my local (Orlando FL) Cingular corporate store last night, and they FINALLY got the Z520a in that day. I got the last one! WOO HOO! Not sure when they'll get more in, but I'd be hoping it'd be soon.

It was $89 after mail in rebate, and re-signing my contract.

I am upgrading from a Motorola V600 which I had since they came out almost 2 years ago.

Just a few Pro's and Cons in comparison:

Pros
+Reception. I get bars in places my V600 never had reception. I was in my work's cafeteria today, and I've never had service in there. All of a sudden my phone rang, and I had 3 bars. Say what you will about that loop antenna, but hey, the more bars the better 🙂

+Styling. This phone is sharp. LOVE the twinkling light effect...

insurance

I have the z500a and its been giving me problems. I want to do an insurance claim on it but I've seen where its been phased out of cingulars portfolio. Does this mean if I do the claim then they will replace my phone with this z520a?

Avilable Now - Best Buy, Raleigh, NC

Just picked up my in Raleigh, NC at the Best Buy on 70 (Glenwood Ave)

Upgrade Price:

1 year - $99
2 year - $49

No Contract - $249

They are not on display, they have 9 remaining
in stock - Ask to have them check below, if Andy is not in.

They will need to call in the upgrade/activation as it is not enabled on their in store web system.

Enjoy - I am sure other Best Buys have them as well. The folks at the Cellular Desk did not even know what a Z520a was until I asked them to look for one in their storage areas behind/below the phones.

I love this phone, simple, good sound, etc

will report more as I get a chance to play.

Where to Buy?

Called Best Buy - nothing, called Cingular Sales, they say Dec/Jan release, that was after they claimed they were never going to carry the phone and it was discontinued. Like they know anything.

Does anyone have any real info?

Amazon will let you order it today, so release must be soon/now.

Does the mic still suck?

hi just wondering if anyone knows if sony has improved on the mic picking up backround noise. I love sony phones i had a 68, 616 and now a 637 but all of those phones had a tendancy to transmit everything that goes around me. If there is someone standing in line behind me talkin its as if he was talkin on my phone, atleast thats what it sounds like to people on the other end. I know motorola is really good with their mics and im wondering if sony started adding any noise filters into their phone? anyone know?

does anyone know the difference between 520a and 520i?

besides the obvious that the 520i is the international version and the 520a is for N.A.? ie.are menus different, capabilities different, etc.
i can find both versions online but have yet to see any difference between the two. maybe i am missing a minor difference, yet a very important one. i mean, there must be something otherwise se wouldn't sell different versions...would they?
