Anybody compared reception in the US between the 6230 and the 6230i

Hi all,

I know the 6230i doesn't come with the 850Mhz band but has anybody ever compared the two 6230s to find out what the difference would be? Just curious how important it is in the US to have the 850Mhz bandwidth.

Cheers.

OK, I'm stubborn, so read me

I've read through all of these posts, and so much talk about it coming out and so much talk of it not. I've looked through every dark dusty corner of the Internet looking for a version with the 850 band. I've even looked into seeing if there was some way to mod the phone to using 850, instead of 900, and found nothing.

So now for what I want from anyone:

If you can find it, or if you have it and are willing to sell it (for a reasonable price), and can prove that it has the 850 band, contact me and we'll talk.

Or, if you have found some way to make it work with the 850 band (and can prove it), contact me and let me know AND I WILL BOW DOWN TO YOU FOREVER.

Ok, I'm done 🙂

MP3 Custom Ringtones???

Does anybody know if you can use MP3, AAC, 3GP etc for ringtones? I'd like to make songs as ringtones for people. Thats my final deciding factor. Thanks!

Clearing text...

Maybe I'm just an idiot, but is there some way to have it so that after sending a text, the message screen clears automatically? I've looked through all the settings I could think of and didn't find anything. Right now, I'm forced to go into options and clear the text manually between each message.

Any help would be appreciated.

more than 1000 contacts

I currently have around 2700 contacts and I believe the Nokia 6230 memory can hold 1000 contacts and the SIM can hold 250 contacts. Is there any way for me to add all the other contacts. Please advise

PTT & T-Mobile USA...?

Anyone have any ideas as to what settings I could use to enable PTT on T-Mobile USA. I know it's not supported yet but that's only due to lack of bandwidth.

If I could hack some settings then I could get it to work for me and a few of my friends who also have PTT phones.

Just wondering if anyone has done any research on this...

Thanks

SE s710a or Nokia 6230i?

I'm a newbie to high tech cell phones but have done a bunch of research on them. I've basically narrowed it down to 2 phones, the SE s710a or the Nokia 6230i. The pros (versus the Nokia) on the SE are the design and screen size. The pros (versus the SE) on the Nokia are more memory than the SE and an FM radio. My requirements for a phone are bluetooth, camera, data-capable, EDGE, music player and wireless internet. I would really like it to have FM radio but could live without. I would also like to use it in conjunction with a laptop computer eventually so any features that would help with that are pretty important.

Like I said, I am a newbie but I do want to make an informed decision on this. Which phone should I go with and why or do yo...

Nokia 6230i sucks

yes it includes lots of features but its not worth of the money. here are the list:

1) OS is not applicable in this phone which means it cannot install programs on top of its platform.

2) the picture viewer doesnt support other formats or it cant even play other videos (i.e. taken from a 7650 models)

3)ptt feature is not working here in the philippines or in other countries.

4)original package doesnt include the usb cable which cost a lot.

5)surfing the gprs doesnt display correctly since the phones display is still not supported.

THE 850 CINGULAR VERSION EXISTS!!!

I was browsing Ebay for Nokia phones for Cingular, and came across an auction for a Nokia 7610 for Cingular. In the listing, the seller wrote that he worked for Cingular, and was only selling the phone because he won a 6230i at work. I e-mailed him, and he said that yes, his new phone is the 'i,' with the megapixel camera and larger memory, and on the 850 band! According to him, the phone will be in stores in 2005! I'm so tired of waiting...I hope I can hold out till it gets here. But it's coming...

It re-sets?

I have recently bought this phone and I find that it re-sets itself from time to time. Very annoying. Anyone out there have the same experience, and does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks!

6323 STOP-SHIP

"Effective immediately the Nokia 6230 will be discontinued until further notice due to a quality related issue that is causing the device to lock-up within a large number of our Cingular markets and channels. After several weeks of non-stop investigation, Nokia has been unsuccessful in isolating a root cause contributing to this occurrence. This problem is believed to be software related, however until a solid root cause is determined and a corrective action administered; We are enacting a “STOP-SHIP” on this product. No additional shipments of the Nokia 6230 will be accepted from Nokia, nor distributed from our warehouses until additional information on this issue becomes available. Please transfer all 6230’s back to your corporate loc...

It's so sad...

... that the 6230 and 6230i are among Nokia's most feature rich phones and they are so FUGLY!

What happened to Nokia's style and flair? Their phones have gotten worse than dull. They've become like replicas of the worst SonyEricsson can make. I can't believe I'm actually more impressed by some of the stuff from SE than Nokia.

Cingular has removed the regular 6230 from its website...

a sign that the 6230i may be on the way??

hopefully cingular carry this phone because it's far more powerful than the new 6101/6102 flip and it has the familiar awesome nokia mini stick design!

i have considered a flip though, the motorola v635, but i can't buy it with a contract in the US, even though it is is quad band.

also the nokia 6682 is a very nice phone.

so is or did Cingular ever sell the 6230i in the US?

I would really love this phone, but after reading all the reviews etc, I want the "i" version - 6230i. Cingular only seems to list the regular 6230 version their website.

Does anyone know where I can buy the "i" version, if Cingular will ever offer it, and if my Cingular Sim card will work in it ok?

Thanks!
