Sony Ericsson S710a

I was at work today and my regional manager was there, which sucks because your afraid to mess up around her, but she had some interesting info. She was asked by a fellow associate who was inquiring for a customer about the release of this phone. She made a call to someone who would know... I don't know who that would be, but she came back with the answer of next week. Now that is probably when they leave our distribution center, so I would expect them to take another week or so after that to get on the shelves, but his info coroborates another Cingular employees claim someone on one of these boards that it would be coming out Dec. 24th-ish.

So does anybody know if T-mobile wil EVER get this S710a for their service? I'm only curious becuz it's possible that they may (T-mobile) then carry a Silver version. I don't like the Black one but if nothing else, it'll have to do. 😉

I just emailed SE Support about the FCC approval and whether they have been released yet to Cingular. Here is the response:

The S700 FCC approval does not apply to the S710a, the S710a will need to go through its own FCC certification. Since the S710a has not been released, there is no information available for the S710a FCC certification.

It will be necessary to contact Cingular and any other carriers or retailers if they will be carrying the S710a.

I'm sure no one has any concrete answers, but is it safe to assume that insurance from Lockline (Cingular) will not be available for this phone. I'm only making this assumption because this is an expensive phone like the Moto RAZR V3, and correct me if I'm wrong, but Lockline will not insure the RAZR. If anyone has any info on this matter, I'd like to hear your thoughts. There is no way I'll allow myself to purchase this phone if it will cost me full price to replace. I'm too irresponsible when it comes to mobile phones.

We all know we can't get any reliable information by talking to Cingular representatives but when phonescoop says "Cingular swears the S710a will be available this month" wouldn't you think that they would be getting the info from a pretty high up source?

Sony Ericsson Rep says the Video Camera will be full screen, MP3 ringtones, will have to buy something for the FM Radio, and Cingular has them and they choose when to release them.

I'm on SE's mailing list, and yesterday I rec'd an email from SE titled "Looking for the perfect gift?". It was basically just a holiday ad for some current phone models and accessories, but at the very bottom of the email was BOTH the z500a AND the s710a prominantly displayed side-by-side, BOTH saying "Soon at your local Cingular store." YES, I am speculating, but it seems to me that they (both SE and Cingular) are positioning these phones for a simultaneous release date. Anybody else get the same email and think the same thing???

As long as there is no approval from the FCC (and as of yet there isn't) this phone will not be released..no way, no how..

ok well weve all heard this before and its deffenetly not what we want to hear know.. i want this phone along with everyone else lol..here is what happend.. i spoke with cingular cs today on an unrelated issue.. as the cs was very chatty today so i proceeded to ask her about the z500 which is for my woman and the s710a which would be mine.. she told me that a se rep was in a few weeks ago and left some flyers she read some of the shlt off the flyers which is all the same stuff we already know..i was like when is it comeing out. she said im not sure let me put u on hold and call telasales. she came back about 5 mintes later and was all like im on hold still but i went and asked my manager he said that the targeted release of the se s710a is ...

Today I talked to a cingular person who claimed this phone was coming out next week, but I am skeptical because he never heard of the z500. I talked to someone in a different cingular store who did not claim to know the release date but said that she saw the phone when an SE rep brought it in. She liked the look of the z500 better. She said the black on the s710 was glossy and not matte

I pretty sure i'm not stating anything new but i just wanted to let u know what i hearded. I was at the mall and i spoke to a cingular rep and he told me that cingular is trying to get this phone out in december, he says Sony Ericsson reps stop by from time to time and they keep tellin him decemeber, so they are swearing this phone will be out in december so for now i'll believe it. He didn't know exactly when in december but gave me his number so he can keep me informed. Basically though keep ya'll heads up high this phone should be out pretty soon. O and when i say december i meant Before Christmas. 😉

All right, don't all y'alls chew me out, and sorry if this has been posted before but I've been looking around for a new phone (right now I haver Verizon) and I really want a SE s710a, but I have heard that because of the merger Cingular is going to sell their GSM network to Altell and switch to cdma. I'm really confused and any help would be appreciated.

If/when I buy this fon and need it unlocked will it be done by cingular or my carrier in Canada ( rogers )? 😕

People keep on saying that cingular has the phone in stock already. Where did this info come from? It still says 'coming soon' on the SE website (unlike the z500). I talked to a cingular person a couple days ago who indicated that another phone would be coming out simultaneously with the z500, but didn't think it was the s710

I've heard s710 would be released in friday. but since now I haven't seen any news about it. I'll get a errand to Boston in 16th, I wonder if it would have be released before that day.

Hola. Now I'm just as excited as the s710a as the next hot cell phone fan but I couldn't help but notice something on the web today: how freekin hot Japanese cell phones are! I was in Tokyo for one of those study abroad things and there I was introduced to the Japanese keitai. I realize that the s710a is a close cousin of the SO505iS but the sad truth is that most of the technology is old hat in Japan. QVGA screens have been there forever as well as mp3 playing and megapixel cameras. Look at this, honestly! 2.6 inch screen!?
