Contact & Battery Problems

A couple problems: 😢

I've noticed that my contact entries sometimes vanish from my phone without being deleted. On several occasions I've programmed a phone number into the phone and a few days later noticed that the number was missing.

Another problem is that when my A780's battery dies, the USB-to-PC charger doesn't charge the phone. I have to plug it directly into the wall or use the car charger. Sometimes I even have to unplug and replug the battery to get it to turn back on after a complete battery drain.

Anyone else seeing this?

PS. The phone has a great set of features. Hopefully I can resolve these critical issues. Otherwise, I'll have to replace it.

A780 on OSX

ok so i am most likely preaching to an audiance of me, but here goes...

the A780 on OSX 10.4 has at least one bug that i have been able to note:

i am not able to pull files off of the A780 via USB as any attempt to do so crashes the phone (battery needs to be removed form the phone to reboot - not data is lost) and temporarily freezes my powerbook. however, i am able to send files via bluetooth to my powerbook without any troubles. likewise, both the built-in memory and my 250MB TransFlash disk appear on my powerbook desktop as external USB drives and i am able to drop files onto the A780 without any troubles either.

generally speaking this is a lovely phone. no significant issues with it. the USB bug noted above is not a big ...

Motosync and data service with Cingular question?

I'm a Verizon customer, but I'm thinking of moving on to Cingular with this phone. I'm a bit confused though with the Motosync that comes with this phone, if I use Motosync, do I still need to get the data service or medianet service? I understand that Motosync uses OTA, but is there a cost attached to that by cingular on how much kb is downloaded, or is this a seperate case because it's a Motosync cablable device?

Thanks!

Voice Mail Issues (Cingular)

i just received this phone a few weeks ago. i am able to get web browsing to work. email is good. i even downloaded a IM client that allows me to chat on yahoo, msn, aol, etc. all very cool. works nicely. etc.

the one thing i have not been able to figure out is this:

everytime someone calls my celly (and i do not pick up), my A780 buzzes me with a "new text message" notice. wtf?! there is no new text message...!! it was a missed call!

secondly, is there a way to somehow sync the phone's voive mail alert system with cingular's voice mail box?

looking forward to anyone's thoughts on this small (but rather annoying) issue.

kind regards,

shea 😕

Cingular help

Hi All,

Just one question. Those of you that are using Cingular service, were you able to use the internet functions with their basic "Media Net" service or did you have to pay more for their "PDA or Palm" plans.

Thanks!

A few question...

Ok, so far from what I've read everything about this phone is exactly what I'm looking for. I just need to have a few questions answered, so my expection is accurate.

1. I found a price of $385, and $435 in my home state (NY), is this a good price, or is there better out there?

2. With configuring the phone with the Cingular wap settings, do you bypass any charges or your minutes when you are browsing (and you're on a cingular plan)? For example I'm a verizon customer, and with the hacks, when I'm browsing i'm just using my minutes, but without the hack, I would have to purchase the Verizon's mobile web service, is it similar with Cingular?

3 With MotoSync, I know i can sync with my company's exchange server, but can I sync with an...

Internet Browser Not Working

I'm having a bit of a problem with the Internet browser on the a780. I set up the Internet with Cingular and it was working perfectly fine for about a week now. Suddenly the browser is all messed up when trying to open a web page it shows "XML parsing failed: no element found" and nothing is displayed on the page. If anybody can help me out with this please help me out.

How to use this phone with cingular or t-mobile?

Hi all,

As you can tell, I'm new to this. I'm planning to buy the a780 soon, but before I do that, I need to find out how to actually use it with cingular and/or t-mobile. The customer/sales reps weren't helpful at all. All I know so far is that I'll need to put the respective sim card into the phone, which I can buy from the cingular/t-mobile stores. But beyond that, how do I actually get the minutes to use on my phone with either of these services? The t-mobile person gave me some info about the pre-paid option; the cingular guy mentioned it and pretty much hung up on me (after thoroughly discouraging me about the phone, of course.)

Is the pre-paid option the way to go? What are the actual mechanics of it? (Just plop in the sim card ...

GSM Network Identification

I notice my 780 displays "310-410" when I am on Cingular, "310-380" with old ATTWS SIM, and "310-260" with T-Mobile. When I search through "Known Networks" on the network setup screen, it has the list of all the GSM Networks around the world, including "Cingular Wireless" several times, and "T-Mobile" several times.

The thing that I think is silly is that if the phone already has knowledge of these networks, why does it display that I am using "310-410" and not "Cingular"?

Also a question for any of you other world travelers out there -- does anyone know where to find a comprehensive list of GSM network codes from around the world? It would be nice to know what network I am roaming on by name, rather than by XXX-XXX.....

I have se...

The bottom line.

Finally got mail to work! You need the ACTUAL IP ADDRESS (xx.xxx.xxx.xx), etc. One specific (number) IP address for the "Send"/SMTP setting and one for the "Receive"/POP3 or IMAP setting. Then it will work flawlessly. Social-engineer it if you have to get it from a larger provider; that's basically what I had to do for a couple of my email accounts.

Also, downloaded a browser by Reqwireless that is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING in combination with the speed of EDGE with this phone. After I set up the web access with this phone using the Opera browser, it really only showed/allowed content through mMode (ATTWS), which is piddly compared to what the A780 is capable of. Reqwireless Webviewer (reqwireless.com) looks literally just like on a PC monitor ...
