GPS and Location Based Service

Motorola touts this phone as being compatible with LBS (Location Based Service) via subscription. My research has thus-far revealed companies providing LBS are doing so via J2ME (Java, Mobile Edition). Since VZW uses BREW, how will LBS work? Also, if VZW only supports BREW over Java, then I wonder what other aspect of the phone makes it so special that it can support LBS, as third-party LBS providers claim support for other phones, too.

Insights?

Thanks.

Friday

I'm sure everybody knows but I'm just posting this up here because it's info. I live in Toledo, Ohio and my Verizon guy says definitely this Friday. He told me they were supposed to get it on the 5th but there were delays. So Ohio gets them on the 12th.

v265 vs Audiovox 8910/9900?

I qualify for NE2 and am debating between the v265 and Audiovox 8910/9900. The attractions for me to the v265 are the price (now that it is has been revealed), the GPS capability, and the camera. I've read at least one post saying the camera doesn't work so well. How about the GPS location feature? How does that actually work? Does it require a data subscription? Is it fast? I'm a big Mot fan and would like to stay with it. I also have the 270c and 2868 accessories, so presuming the v265 maintains at least the 270c line (charging connectors) I'll be ok.

If neither the GPS nor camera are that great, I'll likely go with the Audiovox and test it, as I've heard its camera is decent.

Any idea when the v265 will hit the Bos...

Review: Motorola V265 -- Moto's back in Business!

Since the major dissapointment of the V710... out of nowhere comes a cellphone from Motorola that is promising for Verizon in recent years. This phone does not have the features that V710 does, but as a phone it's pretty good.

The first thing I noticed is the similar outer display to many Cingular phones Motorola has. No, you can't do picture ID, but display seems to save a lot of battery life. The signal reception is great, especially that it is a full tri-mode phone. Which brings me to the sound quality of the speaker.... no problems here. The sound is loud and very clear. Ringers are plentiful, and loud, and the addition of the music player as seen on the V710 is a cool feature. The so-so VGA camera w/ 4x zoom is still a nice feature....

Bought it today...

$150 when renewing for 2 years, with a mail-in $50 rebate. With no contract or renewal the phone is ~$365.00 In my opinion, this is the best looking phone by Motorola. It is the exact same size as my T720. The small screen is annoying, especially if you are used to a larger screen such as that of the 720. I bought this phone primarily for aesthetic reasons. And, NO construction is not much more sturdy than the T720 😡 The antenna seems really flimsy as well. The earpiece seems a *little* better than the 720, as with that one I would have to have it in just the right spot on my ear or I couldn't hear a thing. I bought this phone at a suburban chicago verizon store. Radio Shack also has this phone in stock now

V265 Feel

I just had one quick question. I don't know if anybody touched on this before but I was just wondering how the feel of the phone is like. Does it feel like the cheap plastic of the t730 (which I have and yes I know it sucks) or does it feel more solid almost like the metallic v60 or even the v600/v710?

Will verizon butcher this one again?

I was thinking of getting this phone, I am deciding between this the 6100, and the 670. After reading about the v710 in business week I belive, I am reluctant to get a motorola. Now I have the t720 which I hate, and I wasn't to fond of the 4500. Can anyone tell me if this phone feels like it's going to break the first time you use it like the t720 does? Another problem I have with the t720 is that it drops call too often even with 5 bars of sevice. The 4500 wasn't bad it just felt too bulky. Since I keep my phone in my pocket as opposed to a holdster regularly, I would like something a little less bulky. If there are any other flips I should be looking at, or waiting for please let me know. Thanks

on sale TODAY at Verizon (at least in Chicago)

Verizon store says the phone IS on sale today. This may be a regional decision, so can't speak for other markets.

V265 in stock

We recieved 10 of these phones today at our corporate store. We also got the pre-packaged 3 pack accessory bundle (leather case, wired headset & car charger) as well as some extended batteries. The back of the extended battery door is silver, not black like the original cover. The release date for VZW stores still seems to be Nov. 12th, not sure about Radio Shacks. Thats all for now.

as reported, the v265 is in stock @ radio shack

stopped in, salesman pulled one out of the back room, was surprised that i knew they should be there. obviously, phone was not charged, but it was still a good look. pretty much the same size as the samsung a650 and lg vx3200. i did note that the side buttons seemed to be harder to hit by accident than most on the lg phones (6100)

i will know better how to rate this phone after i see the working model

Owner reviews please.

I'm actually interested in the v260 from verizon. And since they're basically the same phone, and I just don't need the camera, could those of you who now own the 265 post your take on this new moto. Any info would be helpful before the 260 is out. Also, at the chance of sounding like a jackass 😁; I don't know much about cell phones, and I am surprised it is less the the v300. Why is this?

Release date pushed back

According to VZW Infomanager, the release date is now the 12th of November, instead of the 5th. This was changed sometime today, as this morning it still said the 5th would be the release date. I have no idea why this would be, as there are over 35,000 of them in VZW's wharehouse. Just lettin' yall know.

My review on the phone

i only played with it for a little bit but here's what i have to say:

Pros:
nice speaker phone
small design
nice keypad (beautiful blue)
tri-mode
has a camera
advanced voice activated dialing
seems less buggy than the 710

cons:
screen is dull
camera is dull and hard to see
typical motorola menu
typical motorola charging port

9900 or V265

I got the 9900 a little over a week ago and want to know if I should keep that or go for the v265 which comes out on this Friday.

Anyone get to use this?

Have a 9900, but kind of big and it's hard to find accessories for. Screen and camera are nice...but don't really care, I need more of a business/car phone. By biggest complaint with the v60c was battery, charge port, ear piece volume and outbound voice quality...gee after saying that...must hate the phone. But I almost always have a signal and has taken some drops. Any comment on the 265 would be appreciated. Have 10 days to make up my mind.

Thanks.
