Kyocera KX1 or Motorola V60i

I need to add a second line to my plan, but don't want a contract. I want to purchase a plain vanilla phone.

Should I opt for the new SoHo KX1, or get the venerable V60i?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Thank Goodness it has changeable faceplates...

The Soho seems like a really nice entry-level phone, and I'm not knocking it, but after seeing it in person (the Verizon variant -KX1v- with the vertical external screen), I do have to say this...

Thank GOODNESS the faceplate is changeable, because the one it comes with is simply fugly. ☚ī¸

If I do get this phone, I'm immediately chucking the default faceplate in the trash and replacing it with the candy apple red/white one.

Guess that was Kyocera's intention... they want you to buy faceplates.

How are signal strength and reception?

I like the feature set on this phone, but would like to know more about how well it can get and hold a signal in difficult areas (such as indoors in office buildings), and how clear the call is in those circumstances. Now that there are more users out there, could some of you please give me the benefit of your experiences. Thank you.

SoHo Battery LIfe

What kind of experience have owners of the SoHo phone had with battery life? With analog roaming turned off, I am averaging about 80 minutes of talk time in a normal 12-16 hour day before the battery dies completely. This is far short of Kyocera's claim of "up to 210 minutes".

Here is the link for Verizons latest...No SOHO!!!!!

See below the latest link as of 4/13/05. No SOHO going to verizon. If you know anything about provisioning (i.e MTNs, PRLs or RSSI) this phone will work on Cingular One network, however, will not be supported by Verizon's Network.

Soho Available on Verizon, Alltel Web Sites!!

Contrary to the posting by Wireless_Guru, Verizon and Alltel are both now featuring the Soho. It is shown on both their web sites.

If this phone is so bad (as the Guru and a few other bashers have claimed) why are these additional carriers picking it up?

The truth is, it's an excellent entry level phone and it has many features not usually included on lower priced flips.... Outside display, speakerphone, excellent reception, great sound quality, ability to make and receive calls without opening the flip (when using the earbud that comes with the phone).

If you are looking for a basic flip phone that is sturdy and functional, the Soho is the one for you!

Its 100% coming to Verizon

Its been put on the internal Verizon Website meaning any day it will be here. Also the V65P has been added and we have the rebates in the store. I dont know why this other guy is saying otherwise.

Just a question

For anyone who has the Soho phone...its states in the specs that it is 3.46in long... is this the length when it is opened or closed? Just curious since I'm looking at purchasing this phone.

Nice Features of the SoHo

After using this phone for a few days I must say I'm satisfied with it's performance.

-Pros
*Nice large keys that have texture.
*External LCD stays on displaying clock indefinitly.
*Ext. LCD also features a scrolling text bar that can be personlized to say anything you want.
*On the US Cellular model the alert light for incoming calls flashes behind the USCC star Logo creating a pleasant effect.
*Call clarity is superb.
*Loud ringer.
*Nice selection of ringtones including the U.S. & Canadian national anthems.
*Best UPC belt clip I've ever seen for a phone. The clip is contoured perfectly to the phone and extends the curves & angles. Very nice looking.

-Cons
*Casing is made of cheap feeling plastic (I half expected candy to c...

Soho Update

This updates my review (see User Reviews).

I have now had the phone for 6 weeks, still have not found any shortcomings beyond those mentioned in the original review.

Two additional "Pro's":

(1) phone keeps a record of the last 20 received, 20 dialed, and 20 missed calls (most of my old phones kept a record of the last 10 of each of these categories);

(2) each of the 20 calls in dialed or received calls shows the DURATION of the call, in addition to the start date and time. My old phones showed only the start time -- duration was shown only for the very last call made or received.

On phone scop it shows a pic of a faceplate where the external caller id is on the right side instead of the middle. Will you be able to buy faceplates like that for us cellular so the external will be on the side.
Or the external on the side instead of the middle, is that gonna be verizons model.
