a Chicago Tribune technology writer today makes a quick mention of the Nokia 7610:

"Nokia 7610: Due out this month at Cingularwireless.com and at Neiman-Marcus for less than $500. No immediate promotions are planned, Nokia says."

If I buy this phone online will it work with the AT&T Network?

I don't know much about GSM. If I buy this phone seperately, is it possible to get it to work with AT&T's network?

Thanks.

Choosing between 7610 and 6230

This is my post from the 6230 forum, but I figured it was relevant here too:

I've had my eyes set on the 6230 from Cingular, but it seems by the time it comes out the 7610 will not be far behind.

The major differences of consequence to me are:
The 7610 has Series 60, a megapixel camera and a bigger screen. The 6230 is a little smaller and lighter, has FM radio, EDGE and a normal keypad.

Is the lack of EDGE in the 7610 that big a deal? And is Series 60 that much of an improvement? Any thoughts on what could tip the scale in either direction would be greatly appreciated.

Also has anyone heard about the 6230i? Here's a story from Mobile-review: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/nokia-623 0i-en.shtml

Thanks,
Jared

Good News!!

I got some good news for people who want the 7610 really bad. Well it's only good if you live in NY(since that's where I live) or know someone who can get it for you from NY. Well some indepent T-Mobile stores(stores that aren't officaily owned by T-Mobile but carry thier phones & service) in NY,Queens(round stienway) have the 7610 for T-Mobile now in the $300 range with new service but if you get it w/o serivice I think he said it would be round the upper $400 to $500 price range. So I guess thats some good news if you can't wait. And by the way I saw it in person and it's not as BIG as it looks on the internet. It's smaller & sleek. 🙂

A question

Now i heard from a csr at Cingular that they were in the final stages of testing... but when i was talking to a rep in store they tried to tell me that it isnt gonna have Bluetooth and its not going to run on the Symbian platform. Now is it just me but doesnt it seem a little odd that Nokia would produce a lesser version of their new flagship phone just for one company. Especially one with such lacking features of Bluetooth. Can any one substantiate that claim of is that person just misinformed?

I heard AT&T won't have the 7610

I spoke to a Nokia rep today and he said that AT&T decided NOT to carry the 7610 because it lacks EDGE. But, he said Cingular might carry it. So, I guess that if we AT&T customers want the 7610b then we will have to wait till Cingular finishes the acquistion and maybe then we can buy it.

Question about Phones

I have the 900/1800/1900 version of this phone and T-Mobile service.

Does anyone know if the 850/1800/1900 version will provide me with better coverage?

Please Cingular

I hope Cingular gets the phone. It's only been recently that Cingulars getting any good looking phones, but none are that great compared to the phones coming out from almost every other carrier. This phone has to come out for Cingular.

Great review posted on PC Magazine site

A generally rave review of the Nokia 7610 on PC Magazine's site.

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1625910,00.asp »

They don't even get into all of the features in this brief but very positive revew. Bottom line:

"Come for the looks. Stay for the camera."

*** Most interestingly, they list both Cingular (as "company") and AT&T (as "carrier"). They don't have a price listed, or a date.

Nice Phone

Very nice phone, though I bought it in Asia, and used it in Asia. The gsm network is better in Asia than the states. It also means the phone is unlocked, so if one wanted to switch carriers, you could. Or go to another country that used gsm and buy a sim card and have a local number. The phone has an easy to use menu, very nice screen, and can take great pix. The only thing that the phone does not have is EDGE, which in Asia is used quite a bit. I don't like the flip phones, and have always like the Nokia shape, though this one is slightly different, but one will get used to it in a few days. For people who travel to Asia and Europe, buy it.

LifeBlog info

I'm interested in any reviews or first-person sitings of the LifeBlog software on the PC. This is one of the key features that's attracting me to this phone.

In addition to the Nokia site, I've seen posts like the following on the web, mostly musings from the first press release in March:

Assign Ring Tones

Does this phone allow you to assign different ring tones to different callers? Not in caller groups, but each caller has a different ring?
