Release date info. Take it for what it's worth

PhoneMag’s trusted Asian carrier source revealed amazing new details about the MPx and MPx220 two weeks ago. We did our due diligence by confirming our findings with other reliable sources before publishing this article. We hope that you’ll find the following information useful.

The MPx220 will be the first of the two models to be release on September 27, 2004, while the MPx release date is set for November 30, 2004. Yes, this release date conflicts with Phone Scoop’s recent report that the MPx may be delayed until the first quarter of 2005. However, we’re extremely confident that our information is accurate. We’ve also confirmed that T-Mobile will not be carrying either device.

It’s true that Motorola is struggling with the...

MPx (MPx300)

Does anyone have any info on availability of the yet-to-be-released 'Motorola MPx' (no numbers in the name)? On one site on the web I saw it referred to as the MPx300. On the Motorola site, it is the MPx. Link below. (Sorry to post this on the MPx220 forum, but this phone isn't on phonescoop and I figured you folks may know.) 🙂

Available in Chicago

This phone is available in Chicago. The phone is unlocked and unbranded. It's seling for $844.99. Therefore, I'm expecting that it'll be at least $500 once they get it at Cingular or ATTW.

Its not that Great!

☹️

I currently have one and its not that great. there seems to be an issue with any smart phone that runs on a non intel processor. I believe that this one runs on the TI processor. it has basically lost its mind 3 times and i have only had it a week. This morning after charging it over night i woke up with it saying it had an error and it needed to reboot. after 15 minutes of completly removing the battery and 6 or 7 reboots it finally found my service provider again. again i have only had it a week! i will try and update everyone again a little later!

Beware of Motorola's Warranty

I purchased an unlocked Motorola 878, which broke three weeks after the purchase. I sent the phone to the Motorola Texas repair center. First they lost the phone then they returned it unrepaired. I have been given several different excuses for Motorola's failure to repair, which includes the following:
(1) The phone was not manufactured in the USA (however, none of the phones are).
(2) The repair is too costly.
(3) The phone was discontinued.
(4) The repair center does not have the parts
(5) Just buy another phone.

To date, Motorola has refused to honor its one year warranty. They have not repaired the phone, replaced the phone or resolved the situtation. During my last call to Motorola, a supervisor just hung up.

IF YOUR CONSIDER...

Camera Sensor

Does anyone know if the Camera is a CCD or CMOS sensor? I'm wondering if the pictures will be as "stunning" as the V710's? 🙄

Bluetooth and no Voice Dialing

OK - Motorola - where is your brain at. The main purpose of Bluetooth is to be able to use the cel phone safely in an automobile and the fewer times I have to pick up the phone and punch in numbers the safer it will be to operate (especially in my automobile). I am a Real Estate Broker and I use my Cel Phone in the car all the time, and so do 90% of all the people I see on the road.

I am looking for a clam shell cel phone that has a PDA (Palm 5.2 would be great), Bluetooth, Voice dial that works with the Bluetooth and is available from AT&T or Verison. The other carriers in my area (San Francisco Bay Area) are just no good.

Email, INTERNET access, cheep cameras, text messaging etc. are just junk and have no business on a cel phone.

More tidbits - A630 and V3

A couple of interesting, random things I remembered after publishing the article:

1. During a call, the A630 automatically switches to speakerphone mode when you open it. Very handy if you're talking to someone and need some info from email, the phone book, calendar, etc.

2. The bottom of the V3 (the bulge below the keypad) houses the antenna, Bluetooth module, and polyphonic ringtone speaker. It's also the only plastic part of the case (since metal tends to block radio signals).

Even though that's normally where you would put your hand, and flesh also blocks radio signals, Motorola engineers swear up, down, and sideways that it gets great reception - as good or better than any of their other phones.

So even though it's counter-i...

A780 Huge Upgrade

The a780 is definitely a huge upgrade to the a388 that I had a year ago. I truly believe that this will be a great phone.

New Phones in the market!

I've seen announcements and reviews about the new phones from Motorola coming this year and I was wondering when are these phones going to be available for Cingular Wireless and their prices; for example: the RAZR V3, the V551, and the V1000.
Also I would like to know if there are available for sale on the Motorola website (or when will they be available) or may be available through other carriers that offer GSM unlocked phones. 🙂

RAZR looks great BUT......

I wonder how the phone feels ergonomically? A phone that is wide and thin would not feel good in my hand for an extended period of time. Thats because the phone is too thin to rest in the palm of my hand, I would have to clamp it with two fingers. Not too pleasant if you have to hold it for like 30 mins at a time.

I hope the V3 is more than a styling exercise.

hey Rich

thanks for your very informative article, but did you get a chance to see the quality of the pics namely from the mpx220 and the a630? I heard the camera on the motov710 is so horrible people think RS have defected models...

thanks!

question for Rich

Hi,

I was wondering if you had heard any tentative release times on any of these models, or anything that's a little tighter in than what quarter they'll be in. I've heard that cingular's phasing out the v600 for the v551, this doesn't make sense to me. As far as I've heard the 551 is still pending FCC approval. It would make more sense (to me) to put the A630 in it's place and have that hold them over until the EDGE equipped 551 is approved, tested and released.

I'd also love to hear which, if any, of these phones have begun testing for potential carriers.

Any information you have is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

A780? EDGE/GPRS question?

Does anyone know if the phone will perform regular class 10 GPRS service when outside of an EDGE service area? Or do you just have no data services outside of the EDGE area?

a630 for TMo--surprised

I must say that I'm very surprised to see a TMo version of the a630. TMo never got the a388. If the US TMo stores get this a630, it'll definitely give the sidekick a run for its money. The sidekick is a great device, but it is still bulky. The a630 will be smaller in size and thinner. It'll give users the same functionality of the qwerty keyboard. This phone could be a big plus for TMo customers. Its about time TMo starts to get some high end phones. When I was a TMo customer, I had to purchase high end phones unlocked from overseas.

signal meters

Rich-
Great report! Thanks for the details.
One thin I noticed on the A630 photos was the disparity between the signal levels. On the Cingular unit(it hurts me to say) the signal is much stronger.
Were the pics taken in NYC or Chicago?
