microSD for BlackBerry

All,

Can anyone tell me if there is a certain brand of microSD card that works best with BlackBerrys? Or does brand even matter when it comes to these cards? Sorry, I am new to this ....

Any chance??

That they will push OS6 for the 9700 or is that wishful thinking?

Cases: Otterbox vs. Seidio

I will become a BB newbie this month... Anyone have strong opinions on cases for the BB?

The two brand names I keep coming across are Otterbox and Seidio and I am wondering if the Otterboxes are overkill. Note, I live in NYC and move around the city quite a bit.

Opera browser

Does anyone here use the Opera browser on their BlackBerry? If so, please talk to me about the reasons for making (or not making this choice), how easy the brower is to use, etc.,

BlackBerry Learning Curve

Hi All,

Finally getting my first BlackBerry when the 9780 drops later this month and I really can't afford any downtime in set up. Any suggestions for the best way to overcome the BlackBerry learning curve? I am open to anything (i.e., books, e-books, websites, other resources).

Thank you in advance.

Verizon

Has anyone heard if & when this will become available for verizon? Their new 8530 has some terrible reviews in regards to it's keys, battery life, & camera without a flash. I have the Tour 9530 & the only thing it's missing is the wi-fi & touch pad which the 9700 comes with.

thanks

3G vs. Edge Data speeds testing

If you're expecting blazing 3G speeds on this phone, its not happening. Depending on the web site, you will only see a slight speed increase.

However the faster processor and memory on the new Blackberry 9700 helps render Google Map faster.

The biggest drawback to speed is actually the Blackberry Browser. Its slow. Recommend downloading Opera Mini. Opera Mini will speed up the browsing experience.

Benchmarked the download speeds tethered to a laptop. Edge speeds were measured 50-100K down. 3G speeds measured 200K to 600K down depending on the distance to the cell tower.

Bottom line: 3G is great for laptops but not really noticeable on the phone.

T- Mobile BB9700 Software Problems

My BB 9700 is rebooting by itself at any time. TMO customer service said it was software related; calls are also dropping.

Is anybody else experiencing the problems? 😉

Accessories Questions

I asked this question in the general accessories forum but figured as I am interested in BlackBerry specific accessories I would also ask here...

Does anyone have the BlackBerry charging pod and if so, do you like it or find it gimmicky and just another object that takes up space?

Does anyone actively use and like the BlackBerry Wired Mono Headset?

Is there a particular case/protective covering you like for your BlackBerry?

With the purchase of the Bold 9700 I am joining the BlackBerry community for the first time so I apologize for the basic nature of these questions. Thanks!!!

Power usage

Does the battery life suffer when connected to WiFi. I know when I use my G1 with WiFi the battery life goes down with in hrs. And if I have no cell signal it is even worse since the phone is constantly looking for a connection.

BlackBerry Training/Certification

Has anyone taken any of RIM's training courses (either online or in person but particularly in person)? If you have taken a training course offered by RIM can you suggest/recommend third parties who do thorough BlackBerry training? The need to have access to email ALL the time is forcing me onto the BlackBerry bandwagon and I don't have time to go through the inevitable learning curve on my own.

Also, has anyone gone through the BlackBerry Certification process?

Visual Voicemail - It's built into Bold 9700 and it's FREE!!!!

There's no need to download this program. The visual voicemail software comes with T-Mobile's Bold 9700.

- It works perfectly. I can see who called before I check voicemail.

- The actual "voicemail" is stored in your phone. When you check your voicemail, you are not "dialing" into T-Mobile.

I still prefer using Google Voice. With Google Voice, your messages are transcribed into text and e-mailed to you. It's great for professionals who receive lots of phone calls and can't get to all of them.

To summarize, visual voicemail is a welcome addition to the Bold 9700.

Any softwar glitches

My boss has a 9700 and his texting for what ever reason doesn't display the name of the person that he is texting just the number. He tried reseting it but that didn't help. I told him to put the software back on but he sent it back. Anyone have any other issues with software glitches?

Speedy OS and fast App rendering

This phone is the bomb when it comes to speed. I typically have 10-12 apps running simultaneously.

The ability to handle calls, music, e-mails, text, web, GPS, etc without delay supports my business activities. Just hold down the Menu key and you can switch applications as fast as you can press the button.

Remember, the OS still does not multi-task. Meaning the apps don't run in the background. It just feels like it.

Google Maps render really fast under Wifi. Its all due to the processor speed and additional memory on the 9700.

Battery Life - results after 4 days of testing

I'm happy to report that battery life is very good. I get 1-1/2 days of battery life with rigorous testing. This includes using GPS while driving. Playing music with stereo headsets. Phone calls w/speakerphone on. Web browsing with Opera. IM with Beejive. Taking pics and videos.

In comparison, I use to get 1 full day with the Curve 8320. And that was without GPS.

Handsdown, the Bold 9700 has the best battery life of any cell phone I ever used. Good job RIM!
