READ THIS BEFORE POSTING ANOTHER DUMB QUESTION

Just to clear up any confusion floating out there I work for AT&T and we have little more information than the general public about the iPhone release.

Provided at www.att.com/iphone

What will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.
Upgrade "eligibility" is based on how long you have been in your current contract and other factors. If you are the primary number on an account you can be eligible as early as 13 months into your contract but depending on your rate plan, payment history and other factors you may not be eligible until 18 months or even 21 months into contract. Most phone lines...

Phone call and web surf

I know that one of the better features of the Iphone 3g is that you are able to surf the web and make a phone call at the same time. However, I will be primarily in a non-3G area. So my question is can I still surf the web and make a phone call when it reverts back to the old edge system or will I lose that feature as well not being in a 3g area????

Availability

Does anyone really know how hard this phone will be to get on the day of? or this weekend? I'd like to upgrade but I'm not going to wait in line from 5am like a zombie for this thing.

It's cool but not that cool. Haha.

Thanks

Store Managers know what there Talking About

Okay so I was told by a Customer Service rep and even sent an E-mail saying that Im eligible for an upgrade in August and sine the iPhone is coming out in July thats like 30 days from my eligibility I should still be able to get the phone at the $299 price. I've even seen it state that on the media release from AT&T. So why would a manager of a store tell me there's no exceptions I have to pay $499?

Transfering data from old iPhone to 3G

Is this something that can be done at the store when I upgrade? Can the apple store, for example, when they activate my 3G phone, can they carry all my contact information, pictures, music, settings, etc... over to the new 3G phone on the spot? Or is that not being offered?

If not, how else would I do this? I heard that everything I charge the phone, it syncs a backup, and I can take my new 3G phone back to my itunes and update it with all my info.

feedback appreciated. thanks!

Not sure where you are getting your info from......

I am an At&t employee and ive been reading through this forum and there is a lot of misinformation.

The new iphone will have a $10 increase on its Data Plan so it will be exactly like all our other PDA/Blackberry plans that start at $30

You will have to sign a contract in the store at the time of purchase and the phone will be activated by us before you leave the store in order to cut down on the HUGE number of iphones being sent over seas.

It will now have a 30 day return policy like all our other products and if you purchased the current iphone 14 days or less before the announcement of the new iphone we are allowing you to return the phone and pay the restocking fee until Aug 1st.

Any other questions please dont hesitate to as...

3G iPhone upgrades

I just got off the phone with ATT. They advised you can only buy the 3G iPhone for $199 and $299 if you add a line, start a new account or IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY ELIGIBLE TO UPGRADE YOUR PHONE (Meaning if your contract is up and eligible). My contract is not up until next year. ATT said that I will not be able to get the 3G iPhone unless I add a line to my account. I will not be able to even upgrade it at a higher retail price than the $199/$299. All the other phones ATT sells you can buy when you are not eligible for an upgrade price, but just pay a higher price. But, again they will not allow this with the new 3G iPhone. Anyone have any ideas?

Picture Messages

With this newer iphone will it let you check your picture and video messages without having to log into a separate account from the web on your phone?

Iphone 2.0 Rate plans are a mystery!!! (and next version?)

I already am on a family att line, im pretty sure we have everything basic(eg. basic texting, basic minutes)....how much will the plan be for me?(yes, i am eligible for an upgrade)....and i hear theyres 3 different plans, how much for the basic, and most features?

also, anyone know when the next version will come out?....i was kind of hoping to have more memory than 16 gb so i could actually substitute this with my ipod.

Thanks!

3G Coverage?

Well then............

Was checking ATT's 3G coverage map of the United States and wholly schnikles........

It did not take too long to see where there is NO coverage and took quite awhile to zoom in and see where there is coverage!

Going to have to re-think getting this phone. I have used the original iPhone on the Edge network and it is sooooooooooooo slow.

Voice Dialing

The only thing holding me back from jumping into the iphone "pond" is it's lack of voice dialing. No I don;t want to pay extra to still have to dial then vdial.

Any known workarounds? Thanks, Larry

Convoluted Email Question

I have MANY email accounts, all of which are seamlessly delivered to my one MS Outlook mailbox. When I reply to an email, it uses the appropriate FROM address based on the TO address of the message I am replying to. I use EMOZE software to sync my Outlook inbox with my Motorola Q. It takes whatever is sitting in my inbox, regardless of what the TO address is, and copies it to the Q. If I reply from my Q, it actually runs the reply through Outlook at the next sync, properly using whatever FROM address Outlook would normally use based on the TO address. I keep my computer on and every hour (I set the interval to an hour to conserve battery) EMOZE checks my Outlook inbox and syncs it with the Q, sending any waiting messages. This works. Blackbe...

FREE TEXTING (TEXT DROP & Teleflip)

OK...I need to know the truth on this. If I can save $20/month for unlimited text and use one of these services for free text....I just may get this phone. I need the real details. If you use teleflip/textdrop do you get spammed? Does it count as a text or does it truly come transfer the incoming text to your email?? 🙄 which one is better? Any others? Too good to be true??!! HELP LOL

Question Pleae Read

Ok heres the scenario... I have someone that has AT&T that is eligible for an upgrade right now as i am not eligible right now. They are willing to go upgrade to get the iphone at the 199 price and then give it to me.

Is this something that can be done or will it be a problem when it comes to me trying to use it on my own number?

Another thing is since they make u sign up for a new 2yr contract with the phone and you have to get a iphone plan will there be a issue when they call and say they want to go back 2 a regular phone plan? Will they try to charge them fully for the phone after this or what will happen?

Why is everyone complaining about $30

EVERY other PDA At&t sells cost a minimum $30 for the data plan. If you cant afford it stop trying to be a baller and get a nokia 6555.

Some early reviews

Check out this link from CNET. Three guys were chosen by Apple to review the new iphone (Walt Mossberg, David Pogue, and Edward Baig). They seem pleased overall, although old man Mossberg is dishing out some haterade on the phone's battery life. Psh, what does he know?
