Password Protection

I just upgraded to the 8830 from the Kyocera 7135, and can't find anything in the documentation about password protecting individual Blackberry address book entries.

Anyone know if it is possible, and how?

Thanks

Keyboard Lock?

So I've had the phone now for 1 day. As far as I can tell, the only way to lock the keyboard is to go into the application listing and select "Keyboard Lock". Is there a shortcut to more quickly lock the keyboard? Exiting keyboard lock is nice and quick (* + Green Button).

Also what is the functional difference between keyboard lock and Standby Mode?

For $50 savings on eligible upgrades only (must extend contract for 2 years) - - price $250 after mail in rebates for brand new 8830.

If you also select one of the voice/data bundle plans (on a single plan, not family share) then i can get it from my guy for even cheaper...jbeckproductions@aol.com.

trouble viewing email attachments

I am sure there is probably a setting or something that I don't have set right, but I can't figure out where it would be. I've sent myself a couple of test email messages with attachments, one attaching a word doc, and the other attaching a picture. If I click on the attachment in the email, it doesn't do anything. If I go to the menu, there isn't any option to download the attachment or anything.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?????? SURELY you can at least view microsoft docs that are attached?

Thanks

PTT

I see it is listed that some models will offer PTT. Is it possible that on the Sprint version that we could see Nextel Direct Connect?

I would be nice!

SMS Texting

Does this phone have threaded text messaging like the Treo 750's?

GPS Using Verizon

The 8830 implied that it had new GPS capabilities that prevoius Verizon devices DID NOT have. I now own the 8830 and simply stated the advanced GPS features DO NOT work. This was supported by extensive Verizon level 2 technical support.

Audio Problem

I have had the phone for a week now, and something is bothering me with the audio. In the audio player the sounds and songs that i download and download are very loud and sound great, but when used as a ringer, even on loud, it is not nearly as loud as it is in the audio player.

I hope RIM or verizon notice this and fix it with a software update!

Anyone else notice the same problem?

Playing Music

I've had the 8830 a few days and like it but having trouble getting any format of music to play on the device. I have tried wma, ra, and mp3 but it nevers plays correctly. The player skips several seconds at a time and plays parts of a note. I tried RIM support and they said they would need to do more research because the mp3 should work. Any help....?

Verizon Service Cost vs Sprint's

Hoping someone can answer this: I looked at Verizon's service cost for the Blackberry data plan. My interpretation is that VZ charges $30 extra/month (over the cost of the BB data plan) to be able to tether the BB to my laptop. They call it Broadband Access Connect, and it is an option when signing up.

Sprint, on the other hand, appears to allow tethering for the $40/month it charges for its unlimited BB data plan.

Am I understanding this correctly? If so, Sprint would be an obvious choice for me, as I am presently a Sprint customer.

Thanks.

Curious about how it knows when it is in the holster

I've been using my 8830 for three days now,and I love it!!!! Best phone I ever owned.

I am curious though... There is an option to have the phone keypad automatically lock when the phone is inserted into the holster. Does anyone know how the phone knows it is in the holster and when it is not?

Anyone have information for Sprint's 8830?

I am eligible for an upgrade, and I am torn between a Q and the 8830. I have carried 3 different Nextel Blackberries in the past, and love them, but Windows Mobile does look somewhat appealing...I probably won't make up my mind until I play with both, but does anyone happen to know when the Sprint 8830 will be released, or have any idea on the pricing (unactivated/upgrade/new)? I emailed Sprint a few months ago about getting a Blackberry, and was told that the $15 Vision data plan worked for Blackberries, but I read on this forum that they have a $40 Blackberry plan. Was the CSR that responded to me confused, or are there really 2 options for the Blackberry?

Tethering and GPS navigation

Am I to understand that using the GPS to navigate costs an additional 9.99/month?

Also on my Q (with which I have a love hate relationship) I can tether it to my PC with out paying any additional fee to Verizon. With the 8830, are you forced to pay extra to tether or is there a way around this?

Thanks in advance.
