Problems with .csv address book import

Hi,

I'm trying to import the address book from my old Treo into my 8830. I've got the .csv file ready, and have the 4.3 version of Desktop manager installed Then I do the following:

Click on the Synchronize button on the Desktop main page

Click the Configuration tab

Click the Configure Synch button

Click on Setup and make sure Intellisync is configured to receive .CSV format data

Select ASCII IMporter/Exporter to download to the blackberry

Go back to the Synchronize tab and click Synchronize Now

The syncronization process starts, but then I get the following error when it gets to the address book:

Still Would Appreciate Input on Background Noise

I was about to switch to the 8830 but began reading about background noise issues on the 8830. Note that the problem is not one heard by 8830 users but by the people that they are talking with.

There are several threads on this site, and massive numbers of threads on other sites about this issue. I talked with VZW and RIM and all denied ever hearing about this, which is odd because real problem or not, it has been widely reported.

My question is, is there any perception that this is a real problem, or could it be a series of one-off problems that have made their way into a large number of Internet threads?

What I'd really like to hear from VZW or RIM is that they know of the issue, and either that (1) it really is not a prob...

My trackball doesn't double-click :(

ok, so i recently traded my treo 700wx for a blackberry world edition - and i LOVE it - BUT the guy who had the phone before me somehow set it so the trackball does NOT double-click. you have to select stuff w/the trackball, and then hit 'enter' off the keyboard to actually choose it/make it happen.

i don't like it! i want my trackball to double click instead of having to hit 'enter' everytime i wish to choose something

needless to say, i have combed EVERY inch of the phone and canNOT figure out how to change this setting.

i have looked thru OPTIONS and the keyboard setting - you can change the sensitivity of the trackball, but not option to make it doubleclick again ☹️

the guys at verizon even reset everything to the default s...

8830 on Verizon - anyone have a solution to the low volume ring?

I justgot the phone this week after many yrs. as a Treo user. I can envision realy liking the phone once I get used to the differences - but - the ring tone volume absolutely stinks!!!! You can play the ring tones in the Media area nice & loud - butyou can't get it to ring loudly. Every time I re-set the "Profiles" to loud - all I get is the vibrate feature!! I spoke to Blackberry - they admitted it is a problem with no fix at this time. They said they have to provide the fix to all of the providors at once. Anyone out there fix this internally????

Blackberry 8830 Questions

Sorry if these have already been posted πŸ™‚

1. What site do i go to do d/l vz nav app on my blackberry?

2. Is their a way I can incorporate more themes that display the calendar on the home page instead of using the one that is on my blackberry phone with the sky in the backround. I would love to have it on the vzw layout but someone said that is impossible?

I guess thats it for now, love the blackberry!

Thanks for your help πŸ™‚

bb 8830 or treo 755p

in my mind both devices seem to be similiar with treo winning with a slight edge with the monthly service charge. also the threaded sms is an absolute dream. however, i hear some people complain about having to perform a soft reset on the phone more than desired. i love the bb for its constant innovation, but their web browser leaves much to be desired. help?

i CANT be the ONLY one....

WOW have i had issues getting this phone going! im posting this to see if ANYONE ELSE has been or has had the same problems. we are generally more tech savvy than the support at sprint.

original account:
employee account, had many phones everything worked great. introduce bb8830.

activate phone, works great with ONE exception. the 1XEV that should be at the top, very often when i access internet my FULL signal would diminish and it would turn into a 1x and tell me im not in a data coverage area.

despite MANY CALLS with employee care, visits to our local service and repair center, and calls to tech support, i got a replacement device.

activate it. no solution. problem continues.

whole process again.

now we get extreme. we ...

Questions on using the internet

A friend of mine has this phone and uses it to surf the web. I am very interested in this feature b/c I deploy to Europe and sometimes to the middle east....specifically Qatar.....would I be able to use this phone to surf the internet if I'm in either of those locations? I'm going to guess I couldn't make phone calls without being charged an arm and a legπŸ™‚

If so compared to dial up how fast would it be?

Would I be able to install yahoo messenger or skype on there? If so could I make internet phone calls using either of those programs? I do that with my current computer and it saves a lot of money that I would normally spend on phone cards...

Finally, is there a way to hook it up to my computer and surf the web on my laptop? Verizo...

HELP! Tethering for non-business users

I'm trying to tether my Blackberry to my dell laptop running XP and I've been unsuccessful to say the least. First off, I'm not using an enterprise server but I'm not sure if that makes a difference? I downloaded the Sprint Connection Manager from sprint.com/downloads and plugged my 8830 in then hit 'GO' and received an error message.

"Unable to connect. Dial-up networking error #678 has occured. The remote computer did not respond. For further assistance search the Windows Help and Support Center for this error number."

If anyone can offer any help I would really appreciate it!

Disappointing News Regarding VZ Nav

Talked to tech support a VZW and they indicated that availability date of the download for the 8830 allowing VZ NAv is unknown at this time but expected either in late Nov or sometime in Dec. Looks like it will be a while yet.

GPS via bluetooth

My dad just recently purchased this phone and was wondering if it is possible have the GPS commands come through the speakers in his car via bluetooth. I'm in a different state so I can't fiddle with it. Does anyone know?

UPGRADE SITE for GPS USE?!?!?!?

So with the release of the 8130 Pearl on the 8th I have applied a lot of pressure to my VZW rep about the 8830 NOT having GPS unlocked, yet the PEARL will at least have a VZNav option.

Hew was unwilling to provide a firm date, but did give me the site to use and keep checking.

http://www.vzam.net/blackberry/ »

He did lead me to believe that they would not release the 8130 with the Nav option without supporting current customers. This leads me to believe that on Thursday (11/8/07) the site will be updated with a new software version.

Again, he would not say if the upgrade will only offer Vcast with VZNav or unlock the GPS to use with Google Maps/ BB Maps, etc. as well as offer Vcast (VZNAV). One peice of info that leads me to bel...

Video formats

I was looking through the specs for this phone and it doesn't list what video formats it will play. I know it plays video, I just don't know what kind. Any info would be appreciated.
