Need help with Email

I just moved from a Motorola Q to the 8830 on Verizon. On my Q when I would sit in front of my computer I would be able to go into the settings and turn the email function off, I'm trying to find that setting in the blackberry and am having a hard time. Is it possible with the blackberry?

Clarity on Sound and Call Clarity

There were some earlier threads about sound quality in terms of the phone picking up noise on the 8830 caller's end. Any more information about this? Was there ever a correction or software update? Do people still experience this?

Thank you.

Any More Updates? - Background Noise

I really would like to get the 8830 but have been scared off by the background noise reports. They just seem too widespread to be totally off-base. Seems like RIM might come up with a better explanation or fix, or at least credible denial, rather than the seeming assertion by their tech folks that when you have a lot of sales, some of the customers are going to be fruitcakes.

In any event, have there been 1) software updates that fix or at least address this issue? and 2) are there any plans for a new blackberry world phone that Verizon might use, like an 8930? 🙂

Thanks.

Can't get vids to play

I cannot, for the life of me, get a friggin' video on my 8830. I will select a vid (even an existing .mpeg4), drag it to the 8830 mem. card through the Roxio software, select convert & copy, and it'll give me a lovely message stating that it couldn't be copied. I tried putting the file (Smokin' Aces, 1.1GB, .mpeg4 formatted for psp screen in PSPVIDEO9) on the device without converting for optimal playback ... and it wouildn't play on the handset. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

8830 VS Palm 755P?

I'm looking at getting a new phone and am considering the 755P and the 8830. I have been a long Palm fan and have owned several but never a treo. I am a paramedic and will be using the phone for medical programs, (there are versions for both), web browsing, e-mail, and GPS. I will also want to use my phone as a modem for my laptop. I also love e-books and used that a lot om my palms. Bluetooth is cool but not very important to be honest.

What do you guys think?

Treo 700p v. 8830

So here's my problem, I'm up for my NE2 and I'm really becoming annoyed with my Treo 700p. The SMS lockup is killer and the phone randomly freezes up at points and its very annoying overall (I'm on my 3rd phone so I know it isn't just this one.)

So basically, is the 8830 a good alternative?

Battery Life Question?

I am still new to the BB and liking it a lot but I can charge the phone and it tells me that the phone is at 100% charge, then after a few calls maybe around 20-30 minutes total of talk time the battery goes down to 2 bars or 60% full? I usually wait until the charge goes down to 20% to charge the phone, maybe I’m not charging it long enough, 4-6 hours or overnight, during the charge the phone is set to turn off at 12 p.m. and start up at 7 a.m. I never noticed if the light turns green telling me that it is full, I just check to see if there are full bars then go to the options>status to see if the battery is up to 100%? could it be the battery or may I am not charging it long enough? I know I read that the phone can have a last time of...

Blackberry vs. XV-6800 (Mogul) - ringer volume?

Debating between a Blackberry 8830 and the Mogul. I've seen a number of posts about the 8830's ringers being too low/soft. How does the Mogul stack up in comparison? Has anyone compared the two?

Thanks!

BB 8830 vs Moto Q

I am considering each of these phones and have done some considerable research, but it seems that once I have my mind made up as to which one to get I come across a few bad reviews and I'm back to square one.

The big thing for me is justifying the difference in 1) cost of phone $299 for the 8830; $179 for the Q and 2) cost of data package $39.95 for BB and $24.95 for the Q.

They both seem to handle email, appointments, browsing equally well.
Battery life advantage goes to the 8830.
Additional storage - BB (4GB), Q (2GB)
MP3 ringtones - equal
Bluetooth - BB (v2) Q (v1.2)
Email - have an exchange server and a bb server at work - both of which I have access to

Acticesync wont be a big player for me as I will be moving my lap...

BIS vs BES? WHAT UP?

Upgrading to a BB. Have seen posts about pricing for BIS vs BES. What does this mean? I have my own small biz and URL, but not a corporate server or anything like that. My email is 'mycompany.com' not a hotmail, Yahoo or Gmail. Would love to get the $29 plan, which I hear is okay if you're 'BIS.'

Please help!! I'm lost in acronym land.

Auto Time Change

Is there anyway to make the time on the phone automatically change when you move between time zones or is it not allowed to happen because of the Sync with the bes.

Thanks for the help!

A Nav. question

I'm with Alltel, so the GPS is unlocked:
Does the latest Google Maps run on it? What is the best Nav software for the phone using the built-in receiver? (work has a firewall so no google.com for me). Thanks!

HELP!!!

So a friend of mine just got on of these and is having lots of trouble. Here are the concerns:
1) He set up the email but he can't get online. Everytime he hits the browser app, it doesn't go online. How can he access the internet?
2) The volume on the ringer is extremely low. He goes to profile and sets it to Loud but it is still very low. Is there anyway to boost up the volume?
3) Is there any other things that can help his experience with the BlackBerry?

Thanks I really appreciate it.

please help asap

8830 keyboard backlight TOO BRIGHT

Does anyone know how to turn down the backlighting on the keyboard itself.. I find it really hard to see the 'letters" in normal "reading" conditions. It doesn't effect it during the day, or in the total dark.. But, in low light.. I'd rather not have the backlight on.. THanks

keyboard lock vs standby mode

There is only one convenience key on this phone...on my 8703 i used one for profiles, one for key board lock...

but i really like the voice command trigger...so i have to lock the keyboard from inside the phone...

but i learned if you hold the mute key down, you go into standby mode...which appears to be the same thing...no buttons work, but calls will come in...emails i'm not so sure about...and to get out..just tap the mute button...

so is this the preferred way to lock this phone?

Can you use this phone as a "regular" cell phone? (sans data plan and global service plan?)

I am really liking what I've learned about Blackberrys thus far, and I'm wondering if I can buy this one as my NE2 phone, without getting a data plan or anything else.

I know this sounds pointless to most people, but I love the software, the qwerty keypad, and most importantly, the excellent voice quality. I do not need "push" e-mail technology (yet..) nor do I need to surf the internet on my cell phone, let alone HIGH-SPEED internet. Not something I need. Just text messaging, organizing, and calling mostly.

Does the voice quality differ if you opt out of the data plan? Am I confused here?

Hopefully someone here knows the answers to my questions, or I may have to wait for the release at the stores on the 28th. (Open on Memorial...
