Question about data usage

Hi everyone, I've been looking at buying this XV6800 as my first smartphone. I have some questions though that I hoped you could answer.

First up is that I didn't want to get a data plan. I just want a phone that would allow me to open some word documents that I would put on the phone, and browse the internet via WIFI. When I went to the Verizon store the pushy salesmen went on a rampage when I told him this and he told me I was going to get insane data fees, because sometimes even when it says it's connected WIFI it's using the Verizon network. He also said that the only way to download updates is via the Verizon Network.

Now I have a feeling he was doing all of this to try and get me to upgrade my plan for something I don't need,...

8830 vs. Mogul/8600 - Ringer volume?

Debating between a Blackberry 8830 and the Mogul. I've seen a number of posts about the 8830's ringers being too low/soft. How does the Mogul stack up in comparison? Has anyone compared the two?

Thanks!

Mogul 6800 repeatedly reboots

I bought a Mogul 6800 Pocket PC back in August (my carrier is Sprint). It's worked fine for me until last week when after I sent a bunch of text messages at once (about 30 or so), it started to repeatedly reboot. This has been happening regardless of what I'm doing with it - surfing the net, texting, or talking on the phone. In fact, it's already rebooted since I began typing.

I've taken to to Sprint to have them look at it, but they haven't fixed it. I've also tried to do a master reboot (which puts it back to the defaul settings of when I bought it), but none of this has helped. I've thought about simply replacing it, but Sprint would make me pay a $50 deductible on the insurance. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to how I can ...

6800 and Voice Command problems

Hello!

I was disappointed to find out that my new Verizon HTC XV6800 phone did not come with Voice Command. I want to buy it and add it, but after reading about it here http://www.handango.com/ProductReviews.jsp??s iteId=1&osId=993&jid=X26EA4746EBED354C74B9XED 23D56FX4&productId=199594&review=1, I think I will wait.

Problems reported:
1) Poor voice recognition for contacts.
2) Not picking up your confirmation "Yes" or "No" when it asks you to confirm a name or number you have stated.
3) Call announcements coming out the phone speaker instead of the BT headset as claimed, even when "Announce notifications using Bluetooth hands free only" is set.
4) "It uses the microphone and speaker of the phone rather than the bluetooth headset."

Outlook and Webmail - Anyone else doing it?

VZW user coming up on renewal and looking for a new phone that will let me check my Outlook email. Company uses Exchange Server, and without the VPN on my laptop, I can't get full access. But we also have a Webmail page (Powered by MS Exchange Server) where I can check it all from any "secure" broswer.

So the big quesiton here: Anyone know if I could use the XV6800 to check my email through the browser? It's either this, or I'm going to get stuck with a Crackberry vibrating on my hip every 10 minutes....

Opinions and thoughts are welcome!

3rd party apps and close button

What are some of your favorite 3rd party apps and places to get them (especially free). Also, does the xv6800 come with a program to add the close button?

VZW Wifi capability

I'm thinking about buying this phone, upgrading from my LG 9800. One of the features that I want is Wifi, which the xv6800 has. But when I called verizon & asked the rep about using the Wifi feature, she ckd & came back on & said that feature is not enabled unless you work for a company that has their IT guy enable it. In other words, unless you have a corporate account or something like that, you can't use it ☹️ .

What is the best way to charge the battery. Should I do it when it is running low, or when it is at the end.

Verizon 6800

Does anyone know if you touch the battery symbol on the phone. Does it tell you how much battery life is left. I know if you touch it on the sprint mogul it shows.. What about the verizon version?

2nd Contact List?

Hi,
I'm new to PDA phones in general and I have a XV6800 (company supplied!).

We recently gained Outlook access to a 2nd full company contact list. It is in a Public folder in Outlook. I prefer to keep my standard contact list the way I have it, but I would love to find a way to put this very large list on my 1GB mem chip. I would not need to access it very often and would not mind if I had to open explorer to find this file when I need it.

Does anyone know how to export this company list to something I can copy to my PDA Phone once in a while?

Thanks,
Mike C

Mogul Screen

Does anyone know where or who i can order a new screen for my sprint mogul? Sprint says they need to replace my phone, and they want to replace it with a refurbished one. But my phone works great, not looking to change it. So if anyone knows where i can order a screen let me know! (it has a crack)

Good alarm app that works when XV6800 is on charger?

Hello!

Since the bright-eyed geniuses who designed this phone did not enable alarms to work when the phone is on the charger, does anyone know of a good alarm app that works when the phone on its charger?

I bought Spb Time (currently at 2.2.2), but it also fails to work when the phone is charging.

I emailed their tech support a few minutes ago telling them about the problem.

Thank you!

XV6800 wired headphones while screen is off..

I am trying to get my 6800 to play music without the screen draining battery, so far bluetooth works with TCPMP while screen is off but then BT drains a bit of battery, and it doesn't work with Media player. This is something I have gotten used to while I had the i760, which allows you to turn off the screen while music is running and control play/pause next/back with the headphones (only with media player). Either I want to find a plugin for TCPMP to control it with bluetooth headphones or find a way to allow media player to work with headphones while screen is off. Please help.
