Motorola W385

Hey, for those of you who have a W385, I just got one on Telus Mobility and I've been noticing what seem to be a few bugs, one being that the time on the outside display can not be rotated horizontally.

But the other thing is, when you open the phone, after 20 seconds the backlight goes out, this is a setting in the phone. However, not only does the backlight go out, the entire screen seems to turn off. At least, it does on my phone.

Can I ask you other people who have a W385 to check and see if yours does the same thing? After about 20 seconds, does the screen go completely black (turn off) or can you still see it on under regular room lighting, just without the bright backlight?

my nokia 6255 just died so i am looking for a phone that can withstand alot of texting and ive narrowed it down to this phone and the samsung r500 hue. how good is this phone on texting

Has anyone else had battery life issues. After my first charge my phone life lasted for about 3 days with maybe 1 hour of talk time. Since then I can't get a charge to last more than one day even if I don't talk on it.

I just got a Motorola W385. Is there a way to turn the external display 90 degrees? I want it to look the way it does on the box it came in as well as every photo of the phone on the internet. The time right now is 10:08 AM. My external display shows the time in three lines. 10 on the top line, 08 on the middle line, and AM underneath. I want it to be all on the same line with no "text wrap". I have been through all the menu options many times and cannot find it. ????

$70, come on they price this over the razr and same price as a chocolate.. I was hoping it was going to be less, I was thinking about trying it out on one of my share lines but that seems a little crazy for the limitation this phone has.

I can only hope they did that to get rid of the crappy razr then they will lower the price soon.

I have used a micro SD card to get the pics off my old Samsung phone. Then I hooked the card reader to the W385 mini USB port but cannot find any sign of the phone recognizing the connection. Any ideas?

On this phone it will only display the message content I cant figure out for the life of me how to change it so it just shows the senders name? any ideas?

Has anyone got this message and is there a problem with the phone?

Is there a way to change the keypad sensitivity? I previously had a Motorola V325 and just replaced it with the W385.
When I type text messages at the speed I always have, I hear the correct number of clicks (from the buttons) but not all the letters show up. It is like I am typing too fast for the phone to process. And I don't type very fast compared to some people I know.

To go along with that: maybe your phone was like this when you first got it... did it improve

Does anyone know or have this problem? When your using the phone, it will turn off by itself and then restart. Its very annoying. Anyone suffering from the same situation?

Is it possible to have no alert for text messages from certain people and have an alert for others. We receive text messages from work (lots of them). I don't want the phone to make noise when I get a message from them but I want a sound when I get a message from say my wife or friends. I tried adding the email adress the texts come from and then picking no ringtone but I guess that only works for incoming calls.

To sum it up in the beginning, choosing the W385 from Verizon gets you a limited version of the Motorola factory model with fewer features.

They don't tell you this when you talk about it to them. There is nothing on the website that tells you this.

For example---There is no "Smart" key on the Verizon W385. I haven't had the time to look further but I'm sure there is more. How do I know this?? Simple...I downloaded the official Motorola W385 manual (available from the Motorola website) and started looking for that Smart key.

I have read a handful of reviews from various sites and several people say that the battery life is not as good as it has been reported by some to be. Is the battery life great or is it dismal? I had the Moto v325 and although the reception was fanominal the battery life sucks...even with the extended battery. Any comments would be great as I am very seriously considering the W385 for great reception and reported great battery life.

So I just got W385, and send my previously using ringtone to my phone.

Well, I'm receiving the file correctly, but I can't or I just don't know how to set it as ringtone.

I can save it as My Sound, but I'm so lost from there.

Can anyone help me find out how to set those as ringtones?

I have a w385 but im on a prepay account with us cellular. is there anyway i can get a ringtone?

Does anyone know of a setting on this or any phone that would cause the keypad to be completely non responsive while you're on a call (i.e. can dial a phone number no problem but can't press 1 for english)?

I currently have an LG 8600 through Verizon. It gets horrible reception, so I'm looking for a phone with that one important feature and the W385 seems to be the best from the comments.

My reluctance is that I'll be getting a replacement phone that's significantly heavier and bulkier in the pocket, losing the mp3 player and getting lower quality camera and screen - and I'd be extending my contract for 2 years to give up these features. Granted, except for the weight and bulk factors, the other features aren't that important - but it still bothers me that I would be paying to get less. (The upgrade price through Verizon for the W385 is free, so I'm paying by having to extend my contract.)

I just got this phone and I am switching over from a Motorola Razr. I noticed that on my W385 it shows how many messages in my inbox or sent folder, even if they have been read. My Razr only showed the ones that had not been read in the parens.

Does anyone know if I can change this setting? I know it sounds stupid but it really annoys me and would really prefer it not to show the number. I would appreciate any help. Thanks so much!
