Samsung SCH-U540

Hi all. I'm looking to replace my VX8300 with the U540 based on its lightness. I have a few major concerns:

1. I've read that since the internal antenna is horizontally across the top of the phone, that if you hold the phone with your index finger over that area (as most people do), the reception will suffer. Is this true?

2. I plan to make only voice calls, 10-15 minutes per day. No texting, no mp3, no EVDO. How many days might I last? (my VX8300 lasts a week!)

3. Since the lock only applies to the mp3 buttons, can the camera and voice-dial buttons easily get activated accidentally in your pocket?

4. Is there 3-way calling? (or conference calling)

5. Phonescoop says the speakphone is only half-duplex! Is this a mistake?

Does anybody know where to get USB drivers for this phone (esp. for use with Bitpim)?
I'm still sort of hunting around at the moment, so if I find them I'll post them here, but if anyone already knows I would definitely appreciate the saved time! 😁

How do I go about saving recorded sounds and mp3's as ringtones? Ive tried to send sounds to myself attached to a message and saving them but I cant seem to save them as a ringtone.

Is this possible? With my old LG phones I was able to add words by typing it in ABC mode then changing to T9 and pressing 0 at the end of the word to save it. I do that now and it does not work.

Advise anyone?

I get to upgrade my phone in a couple weeks and I'm leaning towards this phone, I just have a few questions.

-First, is the menu a picture menu or a list menu (or is it like somewhere you can decide what you want)?
-Second, how many numbers can you program under one person? I read somewhere that it was 5 but I remember the number not being very high (maybe around 5 or 6) on the current phone I have (which is a Motorola) and it let me put 10 phone #s under one person.. which is very useful when a friend has 50 billion phone #s to contact them through.

And I assume the good old send a sound to your phone to make it a ringtone trick for Verizon still works? That trick has saved me a lot of money. I'd like to keep it. lol.

Anyone else have problems getting mp3 as ringtones? I tried to use the mr/ file and somehow the phone was locked uo and had to take it back to verizon and get a new one. I have a data/usb cable and am not having any luck adding any. I also tried to e-mail and no luck and I have tried to use the bluetooth sync and still no luck,, any one have any other luck with something else? Thanks for your time

I recently purchased a u540 from Verizon and would like to add custom ringtones. I have created several ringtones using Audacity, copied them to a micro SD card, but cannot figure out how to get them from the card to the proper place on the phone to use them as a ringtone. I cannot email or text it to my phone because I have a text block on the phone. I also do not have Bluetooth on my laptop, and I don't have a USB cable for the u540. Is anyone able to help? Am i just retarded or what, but why is it that i can pick my main ringtone and set it, but go to assign a different ringtone for a contact in my phone book and when that person calls i dont get the ringtone i assigned to them i get the ringer i set as my default ringer. Please any help is needed i just dont understand why this phone will let you set specific ringers to different people but when they call i get the default ringtone.

How does one turn off EVDO on this model?

It says this phone has Voice Memo capabilities which is part of the reason I bought it. I like to leave very short reminders to myself to play back during the day. All I see on this phone is the ability to maybe record a phone call....not what I want. Also, I fully charged the battery for 4 hours and 5 hours later it was down to one bar telling me to RECHARGE.

I just received my Samsung SCH-u540 and love the phone.

I use my cell phone alarm clock to wake up each morning, but I cannot get the alarm clock to work on this phone? I have it set, have it turned to on, have tried different times, etc, etc. I read something about users have problems with reminders not working.

Has anyone else experienced problems with the alarm or reminders not working? If so, how did you get this resolved?

Can I get some opinions on the quality of calls on the Samsung SCH-u540 using a Blutooth headset?

Does anyone know how I can create a shortcut so I can activate the lock feature. My kids love to play with my phone so I lock and unlock it often.. My 815 let me create a shortcut to the lock function... Thx.

Has anyone found and tried a PC data manager for the SCH-u540? What software and what data cable did you use? I mostly want to back up the contacts data.

I have created a ringtone, but I cannot get it on my phone. Can someone please give me step by step instructions on how to 'save' a ringtone on the u540? I really need help. I tried to email an attachment, but I receive a txt message only. What am I doing wrong?????

OK, now that I have created my own ringtones thanks to those on this forum, how can I delete a ringtone from my phone? I don't see an erase option, just play on the left soft key.

I frequently activate the camera when I open the phone, probably by touching the side button. Is there any way to deactivate the button or the phone to avoid this irritation?
