What is 3G?

Can someone explain to me what 3G is?

Is it better or worse than EV-DO?

I'm talking in terms of speed not coverage. I know Cingular has 3G in San Diego and thats where I'll be spending most of my time.

Battery

My understanding is that this phone will come with 2 batteries in the box...due to poor battery life.

Clarification on PDA Plan/TEXT/IM

The plans required for the Samsung BlackJack are as follows....

$44.99 PDA Conn UNL (unl internet & email) -$5 w/ voice plan $39.99+.

$54.99 PDA Conn Max (unl internet & email + 1000 SMS/MMS/IM) -$5 w/ voice plan 39.99+.

The BlackJack is classified as a PDA by Cingular because it has a QWERTY keypad. But it runs the Windows Mobile 5 for smart phones OS.

Battery Life Truth

How is it possible that some of us get only 4-8 hours per battery with limited usage, while others get 2 days? Seems like one of three things:
- I have two bad batteries
- I'm doing something wrong (i.e. using the battery somehow without my knowledge)
- 2-day Blackjack battery life is a myth

I've done all of the following:
- turn off bluetooth
- turn off beam
- turn off 3G
- brightness to '1'
- go to task manager and quit all

Still the battery dies before the sun goes down. Anyone care to elucidate? What am I missing?

Black Jack or BlackBerry Pearl?

I'm interested in a smart phone mostly for the PDA functionality, such as calendar, to-do list, appointments, etc... I've seen the Phone scoop review of the Pearl which showed off the keyboard's flimsyness, which concerns me. I currently don't have text messaging on my phone plan, so thoes features are not a big deal to me.

So which would work best as mostly Phone with PDA features and Multimedia features comming above messaging and e-mail features?

Is the Black Jack's battery really that aweful? I generally charge my phone every night anyway

Some very basic questions - comparing smartphones

I'm finally looking to integrate my cellphone with my pocket pc. I've used an ipac for years and I'm very used to a pocket pc. What I use the most is the outlook calendar and while I also want internet and email access, I want to make sure that the smartphone will easily sync with my outlook and that it will be easy to schedule appointments on the phone throughout the day.

I'm currently considering this Samsung as well as the 8125 pocket pc. I'm also used to working with a touchscreen which the blackjack doesn't use. I'm wondering how tough it is to get used to a keyboard.

I also wantthe phone that is the most simple and the most straightforward.

Thanks so much.

Add style to BJ

Hi, I wanted to know if anyone knew where to find face plates for BJ online. I have order leather cases, but I want something that will make it different and while protecting it from scratches and nicks. I've searched everywhere online and at the mall. No one has face plates, I guess because the phone is still new. Hopefully, someone knows where I can find them.
Thanks

calender on Samsung pop up home display

Hi

So i just got my blackjack yesterday, and i have selected the samsung pop-up display on the home. The only thing i dont like about it, is that in the appointment section, if the time is in the afternoon or night, it shows in military time, not 12 hour time. Is this a setting, and where can i change it?

Thanks,
Jeff

Why don't MMS show up?!

Every time someone sends me an MMS message, it gives me the "Someone has sent you an MMS message, go to this web site to view it!" dialogue. Of all the phones I've ever had, you would imagine that the Blackjack could handle displaying a picture message! Does anyone know why this is happening and if so, how to fix it? Oh, and I also can't send MMS messages and all of my settings are correct.

Connecting Headphones

Has anyone found a way to connect headphones to the Blackjack? Is there an adapter that goes from the Blackjack connector to a standard headset?

Blackjack for Cingular, What Service Plan?

I'm thinking of switching from Verizon to Cingular because of the Blackjack. I visited the Cingular store today and I was looking at family plans. She said that on top of the family plan I would need an extra service for 39.99 a month to use the blackjack... This doesn't sound right. What service plans do you guys have for your blackjacks and how much does it cost you per month?

Notifications

Hi all. I have have the BlackJack a few weeks now, I love the phone, but there are a couple of things about the phone that annoy me. I was wondering if anybody had an answer.

1st: I have a ringtone that I downloaded that I use for SMS noticications. It is about 20 long. Whenever I get a SMS, it plays the enitre ringtone, even while I am reading the SMS. It there a way to have the ringtone stop at the push of a button?

2nd: While on a call the phone will notify you of an incoming SMS, so in my case, it plays the 20 seconds of the ringtone in my ear. Is there a way to have it notify you after you are off the phone?

Thanks in advance for any help!
