OMG_I've been getting the go around from Cingular and Motorola on the battery life of v551 for past 2 wks. No one admitting battery life sucks. Can you tell me more. Example: I fully charge the phone, made a 38 min. and 21 min. call. It goes low batt on me by 10:30pm and dies. [BTW_full bars on reception, live in a metro area.] I can't trust the reliability phone will be there when I need it. I could do 2 days of long calls on my Nokia 3560 before even charging. Husband and son have same prob w/ v551. Son lives in another town so it's not our location. I'm still w/in 30 days and thinking of having Cingular give me a good old reliable Nokia. Love v551 features, but need reliability. Comments??? Help??? Suggestions???

are you leaving Bluetooth on all the time? That's really the only thing I can think of that would make the 551 keel over and die that quickly. I've tested the 551 and while the battery's no match for some of the other phones I've played with it's no slouch.....unless you're using Bluetooth all the time.

At this point I'm not using the Bluetooth feature at all. Is there a way to shut it off when not using it?
...
It's supposed to be shut off by default, but if you look at the top left hand corner of your screen, by the signal indicator you may see a flashing Bluetooth icon. (This looks like a very pointy B with two little lines poking out of its back.) If that icon is flashing there then BT is on and you'll want to shut it off. Here's how.
*Menu
*Settings
*Connection
*Bluetooth link
*Setup
*Power: Off

i never had a phone that needed to be charged every day either, bluetooth on or off, but if you talk on it more than an hour, then you will need to charge it. what they say about 8 hrs talk time and 8 or 9 days standby??? NOT!! i spoke with lots of people about this and they said that the camera takes up a lot of energy from the battery, whether you use it or not. the cingular stores will replace it for you, free of charge if you make a stink and tell them it has not kept a good charge since day one. i have changed it twice so far. good luck!!

The problem is with the software version (so says Motorola). The latest version has better battery management. When you get a replacement, you need to verify that you have this version: R472_G_0A.18.16R_04

BestBuy and CircCity are selling battery boosters. About size of another phone, but you could keep one in your bag or briefcase for emergencies. I admit that the V-551 camera & features are great ... maybe you just need to carry a backup battery.
BTW, I used Bluetooth constantly on my other phone, full-time standby & every conversation. Battery still lasted for 3 days.
I returned the v-551 within the 30-day testing period. Didn't like the battery life, hated the software interface, and the keypress delay for sending v-mail password was infuriating.
Never had such probs w/ former phone, so I saved the 200 bucks and got the new Sony-E for free. Good riddance.

you can recondition the battery by placing the battery only in the refrigerator over night. It seems silly but it extended my motorola battery by about a day (not a V551 however. Don't know if it will help but it is worth a try.

I just picked up my 551 and the rep at Cingular told me the charge rate is set for only 1 hour. The setting is under the "car setup" section. She changed it to 8 hours. I am not sure if she is correct or not as the manual states this feature turns off the charger 1 hour after the ignition is turned off. The rep stated they replaced several batteries until they started changing this option. I have only had mine for 5 days and am emtreamly happy with the battery life.

I don't know if you will still read this or not, but the 551 has a battery issue. 40% of the 551's have it, as of right now, Warranty is exchanging them, but you can still get a bad one, I would wait a month or so to exchange it so you will get a good one.
