The site you mention above says in bold type. this software may damage your phone. Now why the heck would you want to risk it. If you damaged your phone from trying to hack it your SOL!

EXACTLY. I do not use it for that very reason...but unfortunately you can not get your own ringtones any other way.

Well, here's the thing about the software. Basically if ur not screwing around with other settings or other files, then putting mp3 ringtones on the 8100 is a snap. It takes me about 5mins total for one song.

Its a risk yeahh, but ive been doing this since the VX6000 and havent had a problem yet.

there's lots of different software that will do it, one of the best free ones is Audacity. I can't link it for you because I'm at work and I can't access the site from here, but just Google "Audacity" and you should find it.

Another good one is Sony's Sound Forge. I think there's a free "lite" version at

It's probably called "Music Studio" or something like that.

There is a company called Susteen that offers a product called DataPilot. It allows you to backup your phonebook, add and remove images, movies and ringtones from you phone. It uses a USB or serial data cable and they have the cable available for almost all Verizon phones.

The only catch is that they cable/software costs somewhere around $50. When I bought my LG VX-8000 I bought this software/hardware and have put over 20 MP3s on my phone. I also use it on my brother's phone too. With the software, you are allowed 7 (I think) licenses, which means you can use up to 7 phones with it.

It can be a little touchy sometimes to get your phone to work, but once you figure it out, it's an awesome thing to have.

I have used this site whereby you upload the tone to the site and it sends it to your phone as a pix attachment. Costs you 10 cents from Verizon as opposed to their 1.99 Get It Now Feature.

There is also a site called free ringers.com it costw 7.99 and it has 15 pages of ringtones , all free from the time you pay. They come through the Internet which is 10 or 15 cents . I have Cingular, but that doesn't matter.

tupelo, you can join freeringers.com for 7.95 a year. It has more ringtones than you could ever use. You can get ringers for 4 phones. Hope this helps.

If you have a Sd card. Just put it in the my sounds folder. Put the sd card back in your phone go to my sounds and text it to yourself. Then just save it as ringtone. It's easy.
