Does anyone know why the P207 was discontinued after such a short period of time? I was going to recommend this phone to a good friend of mine, but I dont want her to get stuck with another v600...like I did

Locking up issues, on some of them, but i doubt you will get one that will mess up. You should be fine.

they fixed that rather quickly. all the phones with a black dot on the box are reflashed. they picked up the phone very late in the game and did very well because of aggressive pricing. The d307 and d357 are due out soon. take a look that those.
