Verizon: First LTE Handset Landing in February 2011

Verizon Wireless' CEO Ivan Seidenberg told the Wall Street Journal that he expects the company's first Long Term Evolution phone to reach the market by February 2011. Verizon Wireless had previously said LTE-capable handsets wouldn't be available until May 2011. Seidenberg also noted that the company expects to debut a number of LTE devices at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2011. He noted that Verizon has been pushing to bring more LTE devices to market sooner than originally planned, and he expects there to be a large number of 4G devices available next year. Verizon Wireless plans to launch LTE in 35 markets across the U.S. by the end of 2010, though Verizon hasn't said exactly when.

Hopefully...

Hopefully the phones won't need to turn a switch or enable LTE on the phone for it to pick up signal. The way like the Epic 4G and EVO work having to enable/disable 4G and wait to pick up signal is annoying.

But that's the beauty of the toggle. You can turn it on or off at will. Something I very much appreciate.

If it is battery hungry like I suspect it will be, the toggle switch will be a requirement. CDMA phones don't get the best of battery life as is unless you like screwing around with the poll time.

Would you prefer a software switch that required opening up menus in the phone to disable it?

Battery power will be an issue with any device flipping bits at the rate these things will. Being able to enable/disable the LTE quickly is a feature, no...

I Would Slap A Muzzle On This Guy

So this guy ANNOUNCES that VZW will be launching LTE handsets in February. How many customers who would have upgraded or activated new service in November or December will now wait until then?
