Texas Instruments today announced that their TI OMAP 4 chipset has begun sampling, with a mobile development platform (MDP) in tow. The new Blaze MDP is billed as part of TI's vision for the future, and the developer device will support such multimedia niceties as dual 3.7" WVGA capacitive screens, HDMI output, 3 three-megapixel cameras, a full sensor suite (including a barometer), and TI's WiLink chip, a single chip with Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and FM functionalities. The manufacturer has also announced that the TI OMAP 4 processor will support Flash 10.1, hardly a surprise considering Flash 10.1 has already been announced with TI OMAP 3 processor support. As part of their announcements at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the company also detailed their vision for multimedia in a mobile future, including 1080p video recording and playback, 20-megapixel imaging and more advanced capabilities, all coming with the next generation of TI OMAP 4 chips. Texas Instruments expects OMAP 4 processors to find their way into production handsets and customers' pockets by the second half of 2010.
