Telecoms Korea is reporting that Samsung has begun shipping the SCH-A890 to Verizon Wireless. It will be one of the first handsets to support EV-DO broadband data on Verizon's network. Key features include a 1.3 megapixel rotating camera with LED flash, interactive voice recognition and speaker independent voice dialing. Telecoms Korea also reports that Verizon is expected to launch EV-DO on handsets mid-January (subscribers can already access the broadband network using a data card). In addition to the Samsung, it is expected to offer the LG VX-8000 as well.

Verizon and Cingular are the only companies that can claim they are the best. As far a coverage goes and as far as service goes! And now as far as network technology and handsets are concerned too. I am with Cingular but I also know that Verizon is no...

O MY GOD!!!!

I guess verizon will never do anything but put out bogus lame silver flip phones.

why! why! why!

Can't verizon get together with just 'one' phone maker and design something worth a damn.

Verizon is so behind the 8 ball in my opion on providing a decent selection of handsets.

I give up! Im going to the sprint store tonight and buy a sanyo mm7400.
I can tell you that you will probably be disappointed in Sprints coverage, unless you are always in the limited coverage areas. Yes they have cooler looking phones but EV-DO is Broadband speed on a cell phone ( in limited areas) and this phone uses 1x...

Verizon needs to get Sony Ericsson to make phones for them!

The Sanyo 7400 is an awesome phone but it is definitely not an EVDO phone.
Verizon is ahead of Sprint in rollout of EVDO. Network trumps handset.

Check the reports, Verizon was number one in all 17 test markets in the most recent consumer reports study on cell phone companies. Sprint was usuallly 3rd or 4th. They have cool phones, but whats the use if you cant get a signal?

Hmm... last time I checked, weren't a lot of people griping about the fact that Sprint was selling "bogus lame" and overpriced silver flip phones... They still do. They just stick them in different color cases. A case change won't disguise the fact t...

Cingular Press Release:

ATLANTA and MURRAY HILL, N.J., Jan 4. /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cingular
Wireless and Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that the two

Packet Access) data calls on the third-generation (3G) UMTS (Universal Mobile
Telecommunications System) trial network deployed by the two companies in the

looks nice but

looks nice but I think I'll stick to GSM and use EDGE until UMTS is deployed in my area. I'm just excited that there is now true 3G competition in the states. UMTS on Cingular and EV-DO on Verizon.
You will have a bit of a wait for UMTS. It is also not all that it was supposed to be.
EDGE is consistent but slower than 1X.
UMTS will also have some bandwidth issues because it is not particularly spectrum efficient like EVDO is.
...
Since Nextel is getting sucked up by Sprint what's going to hapen to Flarion's Flash OFDM? If Nextel had stayed it's own company the 3G competition would have been a little more interesting.

So..when cane we expect this phone?

The website says, " Samsung Electronics announced Thursday it has started exporting CDMA2000 1x EV-DO phone (SCH-A890) to Verizon Wireless, the biggest CDMA service provider in the US. According to Samsung, it already shipped 20,000 handsets and will increase the supply from next year."

So does that mean the phone is tested and ready to go? Otherwise, why would they send 20,000 units?

when is this coming out?
does this phone have Bluetooth??
Because if it does My guess is that Verizon Wireless will test the phones and then send them back to take off the data support in the bluetooth profiles and then release a crippled version. J/K LOL

why doesn't this phone have a profile on phonescoop?

I have searched and the sch-a890 does not have a profile here at phonescoop? Why?
There aren't enough reliable, concrete details available. If I posted it, half the specs section would be question marks. The basic info that is known for certain is covered here in this new item.

If someone has an official Samsung or Verizon spec ...
