As long as the phons is unlocked, you can get local sims in each country, or buy one and reoam in the other country with it (depending on length of stay) or just buy one of the international sims.

I travel quite often so I have a couple of international sims Riiing/United mobile and GlobalSim.

You can compare them here...

what about his phone ? checking the specs, his lacks the european frequency bands (900 and 1800). i would think that even with a proper sim card his phone cannot function in greece, italy, or anywhere else where the frequency band is 900 and/or 1800.

Absolutely! If his phone does not have the 900/1800 bands he needs to get one that has the bands. At the minimum, it should have the 900 band. The american tribands will not cut it there, since it does not have the 900 band. You need an eurasian triband, a quadband, or an european dualband phone.

Check ebay for unlocked GSM phones.

your frequency mode for the moto e815 is 850 (specifically CDMA 1X & EVDO with aGPS (800/1900)). no difference between 850/800.

since your unit only works in the US for then you wont see any signal overseas due to hardware limitations.
