would an i-mate work in iraq?
I have a i-mate jam and i want to use it in iraq if i can, can anyone tell me if its possible and if so whats the best way to go about doing this. I belive that the i-mate i have is a tri-band.

tombile and cingular have service in Iraq. however it is not advised. As its expensive 2.50 a min and only works in limited areas. Not to mention that is how the "bad Guys" find you!

I mates are quad band I believe unless you can give me a better idea of a specific model number. The imate I pulled up on PS is quad band and works with GSM 900.

However, there is no coverage map on GSMWORLD.com so it's hard to say what kind of coverage you would get.

I have already said that it may work! I have been there many times. Coverage is spotty at best. There are so many interruptions. Remember its is a warzone!! And insurgents have been known to use cell phones to track allies. So unless he likes to be in the middle of a IED don't use it!

It *should* work, in general cell phone coverage in major cities of Iraq isn't bad. Just make sure your phone is at least tri-band (I would recomment quad band), and unlocked so you can buy a SIM card there (or use Congular's or T-Mobile's international roaming and pay $2.50/min)
