Latency on EDGE

Most people seem to be excited by the throughput of EDGE but I use ssh over my phone. With GPRS I got 500-2000 ms ping times. Can I expect much improvement with EDGE?

I'm currently a T-Mobile user, mostly between Palo Alto to San Jose. I'd expect silicon valley to get EDGE before the last 10% of their network but haven't noticed any improvement in throughput or latency in the past month, in spite of their announcement at https://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=13 57
Would I expect any better performance with Cingular's EDGE than I am getting with T-Mobile now?

Thanks,
Tom

Well, Cingular's EDGE is far, far more established, if I'm correct, I believe T-Mobile just now got started on EDGE, and won't even have a 3G network til sometime in 07. T-Mobile is very, very behind.

I'm sure you noticed, but Cingular will be launching a 3G network Nov.1
That's exciting! ! ! ! ! !
