I can't seem to find anyone that knows if the Cingular branded v3 has a 260k internal screen or a 65k internal screen. Everywhere in print at Cingular it say 65k, but everywhere else (including hellomoto) it says 260k. What gives?

Many of Motorola's newer phones, including the MPx220, V3, and V620, use an Imageon graphics chip from ATI. The particular Imageon chip used supports 262,000 colors for most functions, but not for wallpaper.

Therefore, to avoid any claims of false advertising, Motorola frequently advertises such phones as supporting only 65,000 colors, even though they technically are capable of displaying 262,000 colors.

If you look carefully, Motorola says "up to 260K TFT Color". That's technically the most accurate way to describe it. It can do 262K, just not in all situations, so it's "up to" 262K.

If Cingular says 65K, that's simply playing it safe. The fact is, the one function where people probably care about the # of colors the most is the wallpaper, and for that, it only supports 65K.
