in my market (Cleveland/Akron/Canton, Ohio) from best to worst overall if I HAD to choose I would say:

1. Alltel
2. Verizon
3. Sprint
4. Cingular
5. Nextel
6. T-mobile
7. Dobson Cellular One
8. Revol/Cricket/other metro PCS providers

I have had Alltel since they bought out GTE in my market in 2000, and it is BY FAR better than Verizon or any other carriers in my area. The average wait time at a verizon store on a sat/sun. tops 2 hours! Doesn't sound fun to me...

1. Alltel
2. Verizon
3. T-Mobile
4. Sprint
5. Cingular
6. Nextel.
Too bad our wait times can get long down here but we have a lot of traffic in our stores.

You would be fine the only down side would be the 863 area code instead of a 407. You would roam on Verizon and all of the plans should allow free roam.

Hey the border of Osceola county and Polk county really are not far from Orlando at all. Only real difference is roaming partner and the fact that a 407 is not an area code Alltel can provide.

Alltel is not available there yet, but you will definitely have the best coverage. Put FTR on your acct for $10 and don't worry about it. I forsee alltel being there in the next year, but that's just intuition. I see the next buy-out being Metro PCS, just for the gain of South Florida, Atlanta and San Fran. Any input?

If not for nothing else at least that would net Atlanta and Miami which would be huge. I do not think the south Florida gain would be much other that Miami spectrum. Honestly though free to roam would probably be unneccessary in Florida in my opinion. Basically just cross into Polk county and you can service. Winter haven is probably the closest store to Orlando but maybe one is closer.

True but I am pretty sure that Alltel has no 407 area code exchanges in their liscences.

For South Carolina
#1 - ALLTEL

#2 - Verizon

If you plan to only use on Interstates Cingular, Sprint and Bellsouth may be okay. I need much more than that. I have only had experience with both Alltel and Verizon but other coverage maps admit the lack of coverage in rural SC. Also with Verizon's reluctance to change (time for nights to begin) or be agressive with their pricing Alltel is my only consideration. Their "Nights start at 7:00PM" option is easily the best thing that cell phone providers offer (to me). Their coverage is the best for ALL of the state. State agencies (law enforcement, forestry National Guard and natural resources) that must have a dependable provider use Alltel EXCLUSIVELY. Tests of coverage by vehicle track...

1. SprintPCS (CDMA)
2. T-Mobile
3. Verizon
4. Cingular
5. Sprint (iDEN)
6. Alltel
7. Metro PCS

I lived in Tampa for most of my life, but for the past 5 years i've been in orlando. Now I've ranked these based on my experiences...Sprint and T-Mobile are probably tied...they both work great here (in orlando). When I lived in Tampa I had T-Mobile (voicestream) and Cingular. Cingular blows...They have the whole "we're the best because we said so" attitude that makes me sick. And roll over is a joke.

Some of my friends back in tampa got alltel and they love it...actually switched from T-mobile and got the razr..so sounds like you (alltel) are doing well. Maybe we'll get it out here in orlando soon. Anyways, thats my $.02...
