Can't contact Nextel base unit - any ideas?

The company I work for uses Nextel and they have numerous handhelds and one of those base unit models that looks kind of like a desk phone. I have no idea what model this base unit thing is but for some reason, I could not DC the base unit from my personal Nextel. Also, the base unit could not DC me. The strange thing is that I can DC the handhelds which are on the same DC prefix as the base unit. Nextel solved the problem by changing my DC number to one that is in the same prefix as our company phones so I can DC the base now. I just thought it was strange that this didn't work. I have never had a problem direct connecting to anyone ever before as long as you key in their full DC ID. Is this a limitation of the base unit hardware or ...

Base units are not Cross fleet enabled. So thats why u had to have the same beginning DC#'s.

Exactly. Older Nextel models, including the base stations, were never designed to allow cross fleeting and their software hasn't been updated to allow the new functionality. Simply an outdated piece of equipment.
