True SMS
GSM carriers and some CDMA Carriers have this capability. SprintPCS switched to SMS from their "short mail" service earlier this year.
Thanks!

Does anyone know if Nextel is developing / switching to a true SMS (two-way text messaging) that is not web based like the current "Two-Way Messaging"?

Nextel phones have MO-SMS Capability, but the menu function is turned off by default because there is currently no message center ID.
Under the "MESSAGES" menu, there is a "text messages" or "SMS"(on newer phones) option; however, this is only for customers to receive 1-way messages.

No... when you read, create, or check your "two-way" messages, you have to go to the phone's "net" or web menu to access "text messaging". It then goes to the server to retrieve or create messages.
