Nextel cell to cell call drops

ticked

Nov 29, 2004, 1:22 AM
I am trying out a Nextel phone and I had something weird happen today. Twice while I was on the phone with friends who were also on their cellphones when they went through a bad coverage area the call dropped.

I was sitting at home with 4 bars. Normally when I am on the phone with someone and they are going thru a bad area their voice cuts in and out and then when the coverage picks up it is fine. I have never had the call just totally drop like that.

Is this my imagination? Is there a reason for this? Does this just happen with Nextel???

I appreciate your input. I am trying to decide between Nextel and Verizon. I like the idea of Nextel's free incoming but this could really be a problem. I thought my biggest issue would be coverage...

"Twice while I was on the phone with friends who were also on their cellphones when they went through a bad coverage area the call dropped."

well that is what happens when you are in a bad coverage area.. usually the "bar" would go to 1 or non (but not say no service) then it would see if it can get a better signal/frequency within ms (mili seconds or what not) if it cant then it drops.

as i said that is what happens with cell phones.. if you are in a bad area, and one stays their for a l...

Ticked, sorry you had to find out for yourself how Nextel's voice coverage is. No doubt, the Direct Connect is a great feature, but theyre call capacity is shot. Their networks are overflooded to the point that its a 7 out of 10 guarantee that you wont be able to reach somewhere here in Orlando, FL. And we're one of the top U.S. markets!

Please refer to my recent headline, "Please hold while..." here in the Nextel forum.

Good luck with your search, but for best plans on the best coverage, we welcome you to Cingular 😎

Look! Logic at its finest! If it's broken, don't fix it as nobody seems to notice...yet.

Right. And whenever a caller hears that damnable message they think "oh, someone must be using one or more of the three things mentioned above while I am attempting to call them". Peronally, I think "!@@&*$$@#%!!!" when I get that message. And I get it an awful lot, as a few of my best friends use Nextel.

I totally agree. I guess these guys missed my post of a few weeks ago:

I rarely drop a call on NEXTEL and I'm in South Florida with one of the highest concentration of NEXTEL users in the US.

well in some areas you will be suprised becuase either the capacity is so low that you will get a lot of drop calls or the towers arent there to support those customers or potential clients as much as its supposed to etc... (many factors can be troubling the service) maybe thats what he is talking about, but where mark, run, and where i live its very strong, but his area its not.

where do you live?

the 1 percent drop call rate is actually the average .. its not neccessary that everyone will have the 1 percent drop call rate at all times... a few could have 0 a few could have 2 percent etc... but ITS THE AVERAGE DROP CALL RATE, however it can fluctuate.
