Trying to choose new carrier...

Hi and thanks in advance to anybody who posts a helpful reply.

I'm trying to choose a new carrier. I'm currently using Cingular in the Chicago area with the Sony-Ericsson S710a phone. I like the phone but the voice quality stinks. A few other people I know with Cingular in this area also have not the greatest voice quality, and they have different phones.

I've used Verizon in the past (maybe five years ago?) and Nextel (up until last year) and T-Mobile (three years ago maybe).

I really did not like Verizon. For one thing, they sent an incorrect non-payment report to a credit bureau on me because THEY forgot to mark my account as closed and it took 4 years to clear it up. For another, I just didn't think the voice quality was all tha...

Hello,

I live in Chicago and I can tell you this. Cingular works pretty good, but T-Mobile has better coverage in the city than Cingular. I know people who always drop calls with Cingular, but I never had a problem with T-Mobile here in Chicago. I no longer have T-Mobile (I went stoneage and got a landline, tee hee!!!)

I hope this helps you. T-Mobile works very very very well in Chicago. Cingular is second best. I would avoid Verizon and Sprint, thier call quality is not good in Chi-town. Just fyi.

And THIS illustrates why we all have so much trouble choosing and being happy with a provider.

Yesterday, I talked to a guy I know who it turns out has Sprint. He lives in the Chicago suburbs, works in the city, and has had Sprint for four years because he claimes he's never had a dropped call and that his coversations sound great.

How crazy is it that he says that, meanwhile, you say that Sprint's call quality is not good in this area. Ugh.

Well, like a previous poster said, the 30 day trial seems to be a good way to try it out.

Thanks for your post...I appreciate all the comments that people have left!

well with T-Mobile you can check the actual street level coverage online. I wish all carriers had that feature. It would sure save time trying these silly 14 or 30 day trials.

Why do you think its a benefit? Personally I think its a BIG warning sign if you have to show your coverage at a street by street level- so what, it will work here on 82nd and 33rd but not 85th and 33rd? (made up streets, not real locations)

Have you considered US Cellular at all??? $49.99 1000 min unlimited incoming and n&w 7-7

How is that not a benifit? T-Mobile has spent so much time and effort upgrading their towers they want to provide a tool that shows you they have coverage in your area, not just claim they do in commercials or newspaper & magazine ads.

T-mobile works excellent in my area(metro detroit) but since ur in chicago, have you tried Cingular's 3G network w/ their selection of phones, the LG CU500 is nice if high-tech phones are what your're looking for, if not stay w/ t-mo, it wont be long until they get 3g and they have a nice selection of phones

A good question I dont suggest sprint simply because of all the drama going on with them and the needing a new network by 2010 fcc demands it T-Mobile would probably be the best choice for you right now the coverage has almost tripled since three years ago and one of our main offices is located in chicago also you will get way more minutes for a much better price with t-mobile so between that and the better phone selection that is all tha really matters 😎 hope everything works out ok

Have you tried US Cellular? They are great in the city, but I drive down to Indy often and roamed quite a bit. I've been w/ Verizon for the past 2 years and haven't had a single problem so far. I have the Moto E815.

Tried Cingular and had problems. Sprint I had real bad call quality. I am very curious to try T-mobile b/c I want the Razr V3i. I've heard good and bad about T-mobile but mostly good. The main bad issue I've heard is low reception inside buildings.

My best experiences have been w/ Verizon and US Cellular so far...I'll prob test out T-mobile in the near future. Good luck!
