T-Mobile and Coverage

I wish that other carriers would be more truthful about there coverage as T-Mobile is. The may not have the most coverage as the other carriers do, but at least they are upfront about. Just bought service for my son there because all of his friends had T-mobile. And when I went in there I asked them about there coverage and they took me to the t-mo website and showed me there personal coverage checker. I believe that they are the only carrier that list the bars you are more that likely going to get when in that shade of color. Unlike cingular that just shows you regional maps and not down to street level coverage.

I guess that T-Mobile will always be know as the truthful carrier.

PS What is T-mobile like on there roaming agreement? Ar...

with t-mobile as long as u are in the US u will not accumulate any roaming charges...the only thing that may differ when u travel outside ur hometown is u may not be able to get free Nights/Weekends/M2M if on another carrier but it doesnt charge u more, just uses the minutes from ur bucket.

Actually the only thing you don't get when roaming on another carrier is the m2m, nights and weekends still count. But thats not what he asked.

You get M2M while roaming with Cingular...and I'm pretty sure the same thing now applies to Verizon (although it didn't at one point in time).

the good part about verison is that you always get M2M because there are now no roaming charges nationwide.

I definitely agree with T-mobs honest practice about showing you their coverage.

It reallly upsets me when I see the coverage map of Cingular. All you see is a HUGE orange blob and worst is you can't even zoom in.

Cingular does have an interactive mapping tool on their website that zooms and shows street level coverage, just the same as T-Mobile. You just have to actually look for it to find it.

Still! The color scheme is horrible! tell me which one looks better on the eyes, and is believable?

The tmo map= http://web.djdanska.com/Tmobile.jpg

At least t-mobile didn't use shades of Pink!

omg cry me a river. who cares what color they are. when I look in my market within a five mile radius I know that it is accurate becuase I know which dead spots are real. When t-mobile first released their map tool it wasn't very accurate it took time to map in all the low spots of coverage.

Are you serious?! You had to take fault in the color they used to find a problem with Cingular's map?

That is absolutely ridiculous. 🙄

Orange just happens to be Cingular's trademark color. Verizon uses shades of red for their maps. Unfortunately, I think T-Mobile would lose a lot more business than they already have if they used their own trademark pink. And really, how many shades of pink are out there?

Face it, Cingular's interactive mapping tool is just as convenient and useful as T-Mobile's because it's practically the same thing!

That Cingular map is not even close to accurate...I live on Long Island and according to this map THE ENTIRE ISLAND has service...I know this is false b/c 2 of my friends have Cingular and multiple times they have had no service outside on Long Island.

Cingular's map is brand new. When t-mobile first released their virtual map it said it had coverage everywhere too. It took time to map out the deadspots from customer complaints. I imagine the same process will happen with cingular.

I went to the Cingular map just for giggles and typed in my zip and it didn't bring me to the interactive part, it just showed me the entire national map again.

So I tried typing in a New York zip and it brought me right to the interactive part? We have Cingular service in our area, that's pretty wierd.

I don't really care, maybe they haven't updated the map to incorporate our area yet.

I just like to keep on top of the competition 🙂

😕

No it wasn't. It's been available for quite some time. And that's apparent through the notation at the bottom stating it was last updated on May 31.

I've been using it to find service in other locations for about a month now.

Nevertheless, it is still a newer thing for Cingular to tweak the glitches out of.

You can see where the towers are on t-mobile's...always have..this cingular map kind of sucks and isnt very interactive....

How is it not very interactive?!

It's basically the same exact map save three things.

1)The color
2)The towers (which by they way, if you REALLY want to know where the towers are, you can look on mobiledia.com)
3)Each company's individual coverage

None of which affect either maps interactive capabilities.

Thats cool. I'm glad everyone is starting to do an interactive coverage map. I know Verizon came out with one as well, but looks like t-mobiles and cingulars are way better. I think the point here though, is when you go to a T-Mobile store and ask about coverage, they'll look it up on the interactive map. If you go to a Cingular store and ask about coverage, they show you the map on the brochure.

Tha's not true either. Cingular has an even more accurate interactive map for their employees (reps) to use when showing a new or existing customer available coverage in their area. They've been using one in stores for longer than any company I have known to use them. I've seen it myself and it's rather useful.

I believe it's called the IMT. The interactive mapping tool for employees.

As a cingular rep I will only pull up the MTI map tool if the customer asks what our coverage is like in a specific area. We are not trained to pull the map up for EVERY customer that is interested in activating only the ones that question our coverage in certain areas. But the map DOES exist and is fairly accurate.

i've used it and its about as accurate as the brocure...the only thing i do like about it is that it gives you the status of the towers so you can see if a tower is down in your area...thats pretty cool

Yeah Big-Pink shows they're coverage up front so they don't get bitching customers later, they know they're service sucks. At least with Cingy we are confident enough to sell a phone without speding the whole sales spiff on coverage.

just incase you didnt know there is a number you can call and report problem areas to our engineering team. Its *811. You'll leave your name and cell phone number and the best description of where your problem area s located, and how long and how often it has been going on, and someone will call you back once the problem has been looked at. Usually about 7 days. Depends on where you are located. (how far away the nearest engineering tech is). hope this turns out helpful

You are a real idiot. That's only supposed to be used for employees to be able to alert T-Mobile if there's any service, coverage, or network issues that come up while they're out doing whatever. Customers will have any problems solved when they call Customer Care and have troubleshooting steps done instead of waiting 7 days for a resolution.

That is essentially true, Verizon has no stated policy for excessive off network usage and does not have a history of taking any action for excessive off network usage. For Cingular and Sprint the policies are:

Cingular: "If your minutes of use (including unlimited services) on other carriers’ networks (“offnet usage”) during any two consecutive months exceed your offnet usage allowance, Cingular may at its option terminate your service, deny your continued use of other carriers’ coverage, or change your plan to one imposing usage charges for offnet usage. Your offnet usage allowance is equal to the lesser of 750 minutes or 40% of...

I believe that clause is in every company's fine print, but I've yet to see T-Mobile use it. Here in my area, Cingular just cut off nearly an entire county because of roaming. Fun stuff.

1. Don't ask Cingy about coverage...ask them to show you the Coverage and the towers..they do have a search system in their comps to show accurate maps.

2. All carriers seem to have that right..although I dunno if T-mo allows any roaming at all...since I havent heard of any roaming agreements with any other carrier.

The place here that sells tmo..dont even have a rep there to talk to..just the brochures to look at...that dont help.
