antenna booster ~ what do you all think

jnill

Am I just naive thinking that an As Seen On TV cell phone antenna booster will work??

I routinely get JUST ONE bar in the places I find myself the most (home, friends, work) and want to believe that this little thing will give me that critical extra bar I need.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yea o do. No it won't work. The only antenna boster that would maybe work would be the corded kind that plug into the old school nokias or they have one thatb plugs into the back of the razr. What type of phone do you have?

I'm getting mixed reviews. some people seem to think they work. I'm not looking for full bars or anything. all i need is 1 little bar for me to be 😁

i'm sporting a Razr V3 but i probably couldn't roll with some 80's looking wip antenna.

thanx

I believe they work. I have one in my phone as we speak and although I'm usually in a full service area, there are places I go (like to my camp) that have spottier coverage. My friend of whom has the same phone as I do has a more difficult time picking up a signal in that area while I do not.

I give all the credit to that antenna booster. It's proven to me that it works time and time again...even if ever so slightly.

think about it. how is a STICKER going to boost your signal.

I have heard real mixed issues also. Someone told me that it is purely mental. That the magnetic strip in it only contucts heat with your battery, obviously making the phone warmer, giving you the "feeling" that your phone is working "harder" to get that solid signal.

But like all as seen on tv items, I doubt they are any good. Next thing you know you will have a Ronco Cooker Cell Antentea Super Booster and Rib Cooker.

The only thing that is improved by those antenna stickers is the person's income from you sending them money for something that's entirely bogus.

Well, you have to just think about it. If the manufacturers of handsets could improve the reception quality of their products by just using an adhesive sticker on the back of their units they'd have done it already. AFAICS it's nothing but snake oil and the only thing that it improves is the person's fatness of their wallet once they've gotten your money that you sent them.

Aside from this product....

Many phones have sort of hidden antenna jacks. Most Motorolas (my V180 series, my wifes V330, etc.) Sometimes you have to take the back off.

Amazon sells external antennas, I bought one for my phone, but I couldn't find the adapter plug that fits.

I've got the same problem as you. Marginal reception at home, and not at all inside a building at work.

But how about car antennas? I used to see those all the time. How do you hook one of those up...?

Of course, it's not specifically the carrier, but the technology. Do you have any input regarding antennas?

i wasnt bashing t-mobile or anything, i was just saying if he is constnantly in a one bar area, i dont thing an antenna will help improve the service significantly, because it is obviously a weak area for t-mobile,if it is constant

and on the topic of antennas i do belive that htey help with service, in marginal areas. but in compleely horrible areas, they really dont do all that much, they may give you a bar but i konw that some phones, when you have 1 bar, you cant really make calls, when i had t-mobile i had the samsung SGH-R225 that had an antenna and when i had one bar i couldnt do anything, besides txt. so for gsm i dont think antenna are any good, but on cdma htey can help, on my current phone an e815, there is this one crappy serv...

No problem....

In the area I drive around in southern California, I come across many marginal areas (1 bar), and many buildings when inside I get no bars.

There is nothing more annoying than when I'm responding to voicemails while driving, to have the call drop. And it may be just a pocket of road only about a half mile long! Then I have to leave the whole message over again!

I've tried and returned many of T-Mobiles phones, and all of them have about the same reception with the exception of the Nokia 6101. It had 1-2 bars more than all the others I tried and wouldn't drop calls where the others would.

The only problem with the phone was the little tiny pinhole opening for the ear speaker. With some peoples ears, if you don't hav...

It's mainly a frequency thing, so any carrier using 1800 or 1900 MHz will have the problem. It's pretty simple really...twice the frequency means about half the power, which means you need twice as many towers. The carriers using these frequencies do a decent job of provided coverage in open areas, but if you are in a building, there is not much they can do.

I really can't "afford" to switch to another carrier because nobody can touch the minutes that T-Mobile has. I've got 1000 whenever minutes with free nights, weekends, long distance and roaming for $39.99.
