Kind of disappointed with upgrades.

Basically my wife wanted a new phone (MyTouch)but her anniversary date wasn't due yet for an upgrade. I asked the rep if I could upgrade my phone and use my wife's SIM in it instead. He said that since I had a data plan on my phone we would have to add it with the new phone at a cost of $5 more than I was paying for of $19. He said T-Zone would not work on these new phones and the data plan was different.. just like the Blackberry and Sidekick. My wife doesn't use the internet at all so she really doesn't need the data plan and T-Zone is much cheaper. I casually mentioned that 3G wasn't in the area yet (Honolulu, Hawaii) and why would I pay for something that won't even take advantage of 3G and why would the data plan go up since it's st...

Not to be a dick, but if she's not gonna use the internet why are you even looking at a myTouch? And if you want to do what you were talking about with switching SIMs, I do it everyday for my customers. Just go into a store, they will be able to do it with putting the data on your wife's line instead of yours. Then again, if she's not gonna use the web, don't get her a myTouch. Its pointless since everything that phone does uses the internet. If she wants touchscreen with no internet, get something like a behold instead: it doesn't require internet.

The phone has other great features besides the internet which I can see her point of view (camera, video and music player to mention a few). The main thing is that t-mobile will not upgrade without the data plan just like the iPhone for ATT. It's a nice phone but to make it mandatory to get the data plan doesn't make sense. Everyone is not internet savvy like my wife. T-Zone for her is adequate. 🙄

Yeah, but those are all secondary and inferior features that are better represented on devices that don't have the web as its central feature. Hence something like the behold. MUCH better camera, better video recording, and music capability is identical. Its a much better fit than a myTouch.

She wants a mytouch. Why can't she have a mytouch?

There's a lot more to the phone than checking myspace every 15 minutes or getting your work emails on it. And it has a wifi connection so if she wants to download apps, she can use wifi.

The mytouch is a damn cool phone. Better with a data connection but not everyone will use the data the way others do, especially if they're in an area that doesn't have 3g.

We guys have to stop, listen and hear what women want. She wanted a mytouch because it's cooler than the Behold. Thanks Shellis129 for backing me up. We do have wifi at home so she can access the internet. I didn't persuade her to get the data plan because she stated her reasons which made sense. The downfall with t-mobile is it's slow expansion of 3G as Sprint is already working with 4G! I don't know if t-mobile will lose revenue when they added the mandatory data plan since not all customers need it. Phone sales of mytouch is probably going to be lower than expected.

Since the MyTouch signs you in with your google account when you first turn it on, the phone doesn't even work unless you havethe data plan. This phone _WILL NOT WORK_ without a data plan. If you buy this phone and don't puta data feature on it, you've jut purchased yourself a $500 paperweight.

Wifi won't cut it either, because you can't even enable the wifi until you've logged in with your google account--

the question is... why would you have a mytouch without internet? the whole point is to be connected through the internet with that phone and 90% of the apps you need interent or GPS to work properly.

same with blackberrys and sidekicks. they are meant for texting and emails, again pointless to have the these devices with out data.

The reason for the more expensive data add-on is the browser on the My Touch is a full browser, the same as what you get on a PC, where as the browser on the Razor2 is not. As for the required data add-on, it an industry norm for smart phones to require the data add-on.

Why would it be required to get the data plan if you're not even going to use it? It's basically to subsidize the cost of the phone. Also this new data plan requires an additional $5 fee from the old data plan. When I went to the store most of the customers are not tech savy. Like I said the sales of MyTouch2 will probably be lower than expected due to this reqirement. The Razor2's t-zone is adequate and it only costs $2 vs $25 data. And the funny thing is that she didn't even know I had t-zone activated for her! LOL T-Zone is a great feature and too bad they're phasing it out.

you are. She WANTS an smart phone then pay the damn smart phone data fees plain and simple. Don't wonder why just get it and pay or get something else and stop your b!tchin. You pepople kill me with your whining. It's like that for a reason if paying is not an option then neither is the mytouch.

Okay we went ahead and got the MyTouch but it wasn't the phone for her. The screen is thermal touch activated and with her fingernails it was difficult to use. We returned it and got the Samsung Highlight instead. Data plan is a lot cheaper too ($9/mo) because it wasn't a Google phone. She's happy, I'm happy and the world is at peace again! LOL 😁

Not understanding why anyone would be upset with a paying customer desiring the best value for their money and wanting to pay the least. You are not paying their bill. That is the same geek reasoning for paying the highest price for features and then the carrier rolls out a less expensive plan with additional features. Would the geek continue to pay the higher plan price. With that intelligence I guess he would.

A Ivy league education can be purchased or inherited but there is no substitute for good old commonsense.
