First off, nice to see you guys again. For those who don't remember me, I used to frequent these forums until I left ATT/Cingular in late 2005. I proudly take credit for creating "Bob, the Typical Cingular customer" (thank you, thank you).
I've been out of the loop in the cell phone world since leaving Cingular (and finding happiness), so I don't know whats going on here. Someone please explain to me why, after all the hassle of changing their name and convincing their customers to migrate from "Blue" to "Orange", is Cingular changing their name back to AT&T?
It's almost as if this company is a glutton for punishment, and wants to bring its employees and customers along for the ride. I don't mean to trash the company because i'm sure ...

Since you missed most of the discussion, I'll humor you. They aren't changing their name "back" to ATT. ATT was dead and buried. Southwestern Bell (SBC) bought the name and plastered it on their signs. The new ATT is not the old ATT, or any part of it. The new ATT is SBC with new paint. SBC had controlling interest in Cingy and when they finally got permission to buy out Bell South, they got all of it. Now SBC/ATT is stretching their name over Cingy and by the end of the year there should be little if any evidence of the name around. But it won't be a different company, just a different name. That's all.

Thats for that explanation.
I did miss that discussion, I haven't logged on this site in over a year.

Go dig around in the archives. It's all they've been talking about for almost a year.

Different name without rollover minutes. That's the only two differences. 😎
...
they are not going away with rollover unless you want to call all ATT wire lines for free(treated like Mobile to Mobile). Don't post half of something post it all!

Don't blame him, he works at radioshack 🤣

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Well, they aren't taking away rollover, just won't be available on future plans on new activations, probably. They are letting all the old plans keep their rollover until they change plans.
...
They arent taking away rollover (yet), just giving you the option to get rid of them IF you want!
...
exactly. I hate rollover anyway. Silly trick for silly people to fall for.
...
I agree that for most people it's useless, but some feel pride in acumulating 5000 rolover minutes they'll never use, so I don't mind offering it.

I have several bones to pick with Cingy, anyway. Not the least of which is to drop kick thousands of customers, give them 30 days to port their number or lose it, and then have them so hyped up about rollover (which nobody else does) that the custies complain for hours about what a horrible company I represent for not having rollover.
I live (and sell phones) in a non service area, and these are old ATT custies who are still confused about why they can't have their old plans, and are about to go nuts about not being able to have the new plans either. The poop is about to hit the fan.

AT&T wants to provide what no one else can: a one stop shop for communications. Although Verizon does local, Verizon Wireless is still a separate joint ventrure with Vodafone.
They also are planning some cool stuff that combines land lines with wireless; like a cell phone that switches to WiFi in your home. If Cingular kept the separate name, people would think they're still a separate company.
