Disappointing EDGE speed

macfreak

I'm only getting about 64 Kbps in a downtown area.

I'm using the standard WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM username and CINGULAR1 password.

Is there some other setting that brings increased speed?

My phone is supposed to be an EDGE class 10 device.

And what is your signal strength? You are tethering a phone to a laptop correct?

How are you measuring the speed?

HTC Wizard?

Well, considering you are possibly in a congested area speeds vary depending on available bandwidth. Sounds like you are using minimal channels, or have the wrong package.

Wrong package?

Isn't EDGE EDGE as far as Cingular goes?

unlimited MediaNet,

WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
CINGULAR1

I just tested it in a Verizon Wireless store next to a nearly identical xv6700(in a non-EVDO city) and the identical device beat it using only 1xRTT.

126 KBPS VS 86KBPS.

Thats the problem,

You are using unlimited MEdianet service. That service was not designed to give you as "large" of a pipeline to the internet since it is for use on WAP sites and email servers.

This has been discussed at length on this forum. You should be using unlimited PDA connect to get full abilities out of your PDA.

take it to a store and get the correct package put on your account, give it a few minutes to fully switch over, then do your test again..

let us know how it goes.

Why or who would had put unlimited media net on his account instead is the unlimited PDA connect?

Please change it to unlimited PDA connect and you'll see the difference.

I will activate unlimited MEdianet for customers with a PDA. I always explain the difference in speed and websites that may be accessible. Most opt for PDA connect but a few only want email access and the organizer features. If they don't need web access or use it very rarely that is all they need.
