A Good Use for Old TDMA phones would be.....

....to donate them to 3rd world Latin America countries that still have TDMA systems.

Altho, like the U.S., most are slowly shifting to GSM, many still have viable TDMA systems that will be around for quite a while.

I was just in Peru. I took my old TDMA phone there knowing I could probably give it to someone there rather than put it in a land fill here. I was right. (I also took my active Cingular GAIT and T-Mobile GSM phones.) Most of my useage was via a local prepaid SIM.
The more mature TDMA system there has somewhat broader coverage.

Point is - seems like Cingular could get some brownie points by donating these perfectly good TDMA phones they get to some of these poor countries.

Please destroy all TDMA phones after upgrading b/c I'm sick of activating those dinosaurs and manually programming them. For some reason, Texans especially love this old tech and keep activating passed around tdmas. In some markets we have luxury of just saying, "sorry sir/ma'am but Cingular is no longer activating TDMA technology phones in your market due to network upgrades" but not Texas and the Midwest. 👿

haha thats funny.. we haven't been able to activate tdma's since jan/feb. Pisses people off, but they usually end up buying a new phone.
