Which Cingular phone has best reception/call quality?

RichardM

I've read the reviews of all the Cingular phones here--I always here about the great phone selection at Cingular. But after reading the reviews, it seems like every one of them has problems, or bad volume, or breaks easily. I have a contract with Verizon now (expiring soon), and a prepaid phone with Cingular (Moto V551, and tried Samsung P207).
I like the Cingular service except that on the 2 phone models that I tried, the volume is the earpiece is too low. It seems I get pretty good, consistent reception wherever I go, but they are just not loud enough. I don't have any hearing problems, as I've tried phones with other carriers that sound fine.
All I care about is getting good, fairly loud volume on a phone that gets good reception and ...

Thanks, tadams. I looked up the info on the new Nokia 6102, and it sounds like just what I was looking for. I know Nokia's are great phones, though I haven't owned one in over 6 years. I've been waiting for them to come up with a flip phone with some style, and it looks like it's here.

I plan on getting the 6102. I went away from nokia for a while, but I went back when I got the 6230. I love it. Very functional. Bad camera, but great phone.

Believe me, I don't care about the camera (I have a nice 7 MP camera), or video, or being able to play music on my phone. I want a phone that can make calls well--where I can here who I am talking to, and they can hear me, with good call clarity. The phone function, with a nice style and size, is what I am looking for. Sounds like I'll be getting the 6102 also.

Great! Glad to help. The nokia will be your best bet for a good quality phone and best bet choice for strong signal strength.

If you come into a forum, giving people the oportunity to vent about their equipment. Its going to be bad.
I suggest Samsung, best quality when it comes to pulling in signal strength. You've got 30 days buyers remorse too. So if you dont like the phone, return it.

He just said that he doesn't like the samsung. I dont blame him. Great phone, but there have been a few people that have had problems hearing on it. That is why I suggested the nokia.

I can't speak for the equipment myself, but the phones section of the site has all the phones, and handy firsthand user reviews on nearly all of them.

I appreciate all your advice! It really helps. The only bad thing about the phonescoop reviews is that some people rate a certain phone 4.5 or 5, while others give the same phone a zero or 1. People have different criteria on what they want--good speakerphone, camera, etc. As I said, my main concern is getting loud, clear volume on the earpiece. I was not too happy with the volume levels on the Samsung P207 or Moto 551. But, it sounded like the Cingular GSM reception was steady and consistent in my trials of Cingular. Looking forward to joining Cingular community.

Don't forget we offer a full 30 day buyer's remorse period. Longest in the industry as far as I can recall.

I know how yow feel about the reviews. My phone I found is like Monty Python, you either relly love it or really hate it.

FYI: US Cellular started offering a 30-day BRE timeframe about 2 weeks ago, according to the commercial i heard on the radio...

But CW's still better. 😎

You must be kidding! We recently cancelled Verizon and got Cingular. I have a V551, and can honestly state that the audio quality on that phone is twice as loud as any of the Verizon phones I had. Make sure you're using the volume adjustments. This phone tends to hold signal sometimes almost too long before switching towers, but the up side of that is that I don't drop calls, like I consistently did with Verizon.

There were a few phones at Verizon with good volume. The best was the LG 7000. All of the Moto's from the T720 to V710 have volume that could be louder. That's the same with the V551. You have to hold the earpiece in exactly the right place on your ear to hear, even at full volume setting. With the LG7000, you didn't have to do that. Just hold like a normal phone. I haven't tried the Razr or Nokia yet--only the V551 and Samsung P207. I've read in several of the reviews the same complaint about the volume on those 2 phones--maybe it's only some of the phones. I've only used my Cingular phones on a prepaid basis--I don't know if that makes any diff. in call quality. All usage has been in Chicago, which is supposed to have good service...

I had 3 T720's with Verizon and I agree with you that far. When I got the V551 I was amazed at how much better it was, and I have no complaints for it, as does my husband, who is hard of hearing.

Could well be I'm giving the V551 a bum rap--I got the phone used on Ebay (so I could get the prepaid service). The receipt showed it was over 6 months old when I got it. Could be this used phone is not the best specimen of the V551. Who knows where it's been!
