Whos fault???

majicant

May 9, 2005, 6:59 AM
I been receiving a lot of blank text messages on my phone. I have sprint and and my girlfriend has cingular. Whenever she sends txt messages I get them but there is no message. So we always go back and forth about whos service is better so it would be nice to know which carrier is likely to be causing this problem. So if anyone has any ideas it would be great to have support the next time my girl and I have our whos carrier is better debate.

Cingular customers are not able to send text messages to Spring customers! The two companies do not have an agreement to exchange the messages on their systems.

You are so wrong Cingular customers can send text messages to Sprint customers. There is no MMS agreement between Cingular and Sprint but u can still text sprint customers. There are some text problesm on Cingular GSM lately not TDMA or GAIT just GSM. Call customer service and make sure her settings on text messaging are up 2 date.

Cingular's problem is sending a single text message more than once. I have never heard of anyone getting a blank message. And you should be able to send to any carrier with out a problem, but you can't send SMS to Sprint from Cingular.

You CAN send SMS from Sprint to Cingular. A very good friend and colleague has Sprint and he never has any problem sending SMS messages to me. MMS is another story.

Cingular sends multiple copy of messages not blank ones and me and my fiancae always send messages to one another and there is no problem but she get like 5 of the sane messages. I have Cingular and she has Sprint. MMS is a totaly different story.

It is Sprints fault. I used to have this problem ALL THE TIME when I had Sprint. It has to deal with their formatting delivery protocols for the Sprint "Short Mail" services. Sprint simply does not rely on SMS capabilities, at this time. They are switching to SMS because it is superior & more cost effective.

When it comes to actual (Cingular, T-Mobile, VZW etc) SMS, the HLR processes them just fine. So does the message center. Unfortunately, the Short Mail services have to translate them into a different type of context for formatting.

The rundown... Sprint is inferior when it comes to inter-carrier messaging. They utilized a completely different system while other carriers have a set standard. They are currently switching to SMS ...

Great answer. I appreciate it. That makes a lot of sense.

To those who said the two aren't compatible, you ARE totally wrong. We been sending texts for a while now. Like 100 a day. This is a problem that just started so I was just curious as to who's system was having problems.

I usually dont do this but if you are not sure about an answer why reply? I see all the time people give wrong information but present it as if they are 1000% sure. We are all anonymous here. It does nothing for you to "look" like you know what you are talking about when you really dont.

Ok I'm finished now. Thanks mmcnier.

I had the same problem, for a few days, text werent getting thru, I was getting blank texts and stuff like that. I think it was just some technical problem because Ive always been able to text to and recieve from many a friend who have sprint. Whoever thinks you can sms a sprint phone, send/recieve, is wrong.

Also... you cant send messages to ANY sprint phone. Only ones that have "Vision".

Once upon a time, Sprint wap used MINUTES... not KB. THen vision came along & that all changed.

Well I dont want to post incorrect info because then I'd have to talk about myself too.

But I thought you could send to any sprint. Even without vision. They just have to sign on to their web browser to read. This may have changed now but I know for sure this used to be the case because I was doing this. I had an old LG 5350 for sprint and had to sign on to the net to text. Then I got a V660i and now I have a mm7400 and I can just text and not sign on to the net. I think all the newer sprint phones allow for this.

Yeah, I just found out that they recently upgraded to SMS. Shortmail blew. It doesnt really matter to me though... Sprint still sucks. They used to be way advanced in some ways, but now they are behind the times in other ways.

actually newer Sprint phones (late 2003 or so) are SMS. Short mail is their older system which requires that you access the web on your phone - vision - to read them or log onto the web from a PC. i have several friends who have cingular and we SMS back and forth all the time. i've never had an issue with it.

Its no problem at all! I know of the issue first hand, because it has been happening for a couple of years. Also, I used to be friendly with a Sprint technician (not in the skanky way). He let me pick his brain apart, which is why I know so much now.

My boyfirend used to talk alot of crap at me... But now he sees how awesome it is to have a phone with all the gimmicks. The only thing he gives me crap about now is phone prices. He doesn't like me upgrading so frequently. It took a dog chewing my phone for upgrade permission.

If I remember correctly, he has a mm7400. That phone does not have short mail. All of the phones that have come out in the last 12 months, have SMS text. The last short mail that was on the market was the Samsung VGA1000 otherwise known as 620.
therefore this:
Sprint simply does not rely on SMS capabilities, at this time.
is wrong.
As far as this:
The rundown... Sprint is inferior when it comes to inter-carrier messaging.
I know that the text works with verizon, and the blue TDMA. I don't know about Cingular because I don't know anyone with it. I would try going to or calling a Cingular store and trying to send a message from your sprint phone to the rep and have the rep send you one back. Also do the same with the Cingular phone at t...
