A rather long but informative article. But unlike the title it's equally informative about all 4 of the major US carriers.

Very interesting, thanks. Can't wait to see what's next from all the ATT/iphone haters.

I'm an iphone lover. AT&T? Not so much. I wouldn't say I hate them...just not in love with them like I am with the iphone.

You do know that 90% of the problems iPhone users have are because the iPhone is a cool little computer with a very poor phone in it, don't you?

Alright I'm not carrier loyal. I currently have a Moto Droid because it's a Moto and it's fast!
Yes I'm one of the few that have had good experiences with Moto, although it took 3 Droids before I got a good one. 🤭

But as the article says, it comes down to do you want expansive 3G coverage (VZW) or do you want quick to react, fast 3G (ATT)?

Which I think ATT could use to their advantage in ad campains....I'm thinking "Droid dose, even faster!"

Expansive 3G coverage, we have a map for that. Oh please. More smoke and mirrors from Verizon. Let's talk about what isn't relevant to the majority of Americans who are well covered by AT&T 3G by focusing on the plains states and the lack of AT&T 3G coverage and complete Verizon 3G coverage.

Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Idaho combined have a smaller population than Los Angeles which is covered very well by AT&T. So congratulations Verizon for having 3G where only rattlesnakes can use it because no people live there.

I once sold Verizon and your Droid experience of needing to have your phone exchanged twice to get a good one is not uncommon for any Verizon handset. Every carrier has their downside and if AT...

What I find truly interesting about this is that Verizons speeds actually decreased? Are they starting to see some network strain by the large amount of data-centric smartphones that are coming out? I think that debunks all the Verizon fanboys who said verizons network would have handled the iPhone without any of the problems ATT had.

I read that and I couldn't help but jiggle quietly in front of my computer. I was going to say something about it, but the vz fanboys would of course deny averything. So, I'm just letting everyone else do the talking.

It's nothing to shout from the hilltops about, but answer me this: "Why WOULD Verizon waste money on a dying technology like EVDO when LTE needs so much attention to get off the ground?"

I'll bet they haven't done anything but minimum maintenance on the 3G towers since the Alltel conversion completed. There's simply no point in making the EVDO network better. Congestion has certainly gone up with all the netbooks and Androids that are floating around, so that is going to draw average speeds down overall, and without modifying the 3G network, nothing is going to get better.

There's no way to call it good press in the short term, but I am not the least bit surprised to see Verizon where they are listed here. AT&T and T-mobile are bot...

i guess the surprising part is that Verizon really promotes THE NETWORK as their biggest advantage. They even have network techs in their commercials following around the guy with the glasses....sort of like they are working on it ALL the TIME....they want people to think they are all over it constantly upgrading and testing their network.

the truth is more in line with what you are describing....no enhancements on 3G...but instead planning for the next big thing (LTE).

If Verizon is really "The Network" then why weren't they spending the money on 4G 3 years ago like Sprint was??
Or why did they petition to block EVDV technology which would have given CDMA users the ability to use data and voice at the same time?? 😲
